Default Doctor said to lose 30 pounds (at least)

I'm a carboholic, pure and simple. I could live on cereal and breads. Or maybe not, my cholesterol is a little high, my triglycerides are high, my blood pressure, which used to run low, is now running on the high side of normal, which is high for me. I have an autoimmune disease so it's important that I do lose the weight. Doctor said lean protein, some fruits and lots of vegetables. Sounds like low carb to me! I've read Atkins, CAD, Protein Power, Paleo Diet, and numerous news and magazine articles. I've settled in with the plan I can live with and plan to start in the morning. I walk every other day so I've got the exercise covered. Any words of wisdom before I dive in tomorrow?

Hi Rus.

You found a great place for advice and support.

I would say remove all high carb foods from your house. Give them away to frends, family, or a food bank. Or just toss them in the trash. Out of sight out of mind really works.

Also, keep in touch with this board daily. It will help you reinforce your weight loss goals.

best wishes,
-Ed

howdy stars.

on tips...hang out here! it's a great resource. read read read!

understand if you've been carbing it up for a while, the first 3-4 days lc'ing can be rough with withdrawl. don't worry-it doesn't last long, and when you're through it, normally you can expect energy bursts, feeling great, reduced appetite and no more cravings. WELL worth it.

ed's advice is good as well, as is most you'll find around here. and some of my favorite newbie tips are here.

good luck!

thanks Ed, goddess, and Maggie. I woke up this morning with swollen glands and definite cold or allergy symptoms which makes me even more determined to get healthy. I'm tired of feeling run down and susceptible to everything that comes along. I'm off now to cook some eggs

Glad to have you here - a fellow walker! You should come and join us on the 100 miles walking challenge and/or April and then May walking Rus. I can't wait to hear about how great you feel, of course like goddess mentioned, it should be after you purge your body of the saltly/carb bloat/water retention/sugar foods.

Hello, Stars.....I suspect you are a neighbor of mine.

There is ALOT of advice I could give.....but let's take this one step at a time. Starting with tomorrow: get started and don't give up. Sometimes it takes a person a while to "get the hang" of this WOE (Way of Eating). It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change.

Also, make this board your accountability. Start a journal....or join a challenge....or both. Knowing you have some people....a group...that you belong to, people who want to see you succeed and can help you do that, will do alot to get you through some times when you need help.

Have a good week and keep us posted.

Welcome Stars!

BEST advice I can give (that hasn't already been stated above)?
DRINK LOTS OF WATER!!
Shoot for at least 1/2 your weight in ounces per day of PURE WATER.
Believe me, this will get you feeling better & get those pounds moving quickly!
Skimping on the water intake with this woe (way of eating) is definitely a No-No, so drink up.
Best of luck to you,
