| Hi All, I have a question in regards to diet sodas. Diet Rite cola has no carbs, no caffiene, and is made with splenda. Is it ok to use on induction? |

| Diet Rite is fine for induction. I would have Diet Rite tangerine in the evening as a treat, in place of an adult beverage. I drink a lot of splenda sweetened diet cola and it did not affect my progress. However, there are apparently some people that feel diet soft drinks adversely affect their weight loss journey. That is definitely not my experience. However, as with all things, it could be a YMMV thing. If you begin to have difficulty losing weight, then consider diet soft drinks as one possibility as you look for a correction. Be sure to keep drinking your water and do not count any diet soft drinks in your daily total for water.

| Bluejay, The reason why we tell people to limit their diet soda intake is because it CAN slow or even stall your weight loss. This seems to be more true of drinks contining Aspartame (Nutrasweet), but ANY diet soda should be used in moderation. I, personally, have never had any trouble with using Diet Rite; I definitely HAVE using other diet sodas! :( There is a theory among endocrinologists (and others dealing with diabetes & blood glucose response) that whenever the tastebuds even TASTE something *sweet* (whether or not there is actually SUGAR in it), they send a message to the brain indicating that sugar has been eaten and you get the whloe blood-sugar rise/response as though you had eaten the real deal. Obviously, this is NOT what we want when we are trying to stay in ketosis! This theory has yet to be proven (as far as I know), but there is substantial evidence to back it up among preliminary studies showing that people who consume diet sodas are prone to gain MORE weight than those who don't. The *other* big reason why we raise the caution flag with diet drinks is that they often interfere with drinking water. Sufficient water intake is CRUCIAL to the safety and success of this way of eating, so any diet sodas you consume should come AFTER you have already gotten in all your water for the day. But a nice Diet Rite with a little bit of cream added (mock "coke float") can be a really nice treat, so ENJOY!

| There is also the craving issue. Many who have stopped sodas, even if they drink those without caffeine, find that they had a hard time stopping because they actually craved the sodas. It's better to stay away from foods that cause a craving, if that's the case. But if it doesn't affect you, and you are getting in all your water, then by all means have your Diet Rite as a treat. I love the tangerine, and the white grape, which is really good with a splash of wine in it, if you can indulge. And the Diet Rite Cola is the only cola that I like. |

| Every time I see a thread about diet soda I think back to when I use to go to the diet doctor about 10 years back and he told me to drink non-caffinated, sugar free soda or crystal light or sugar free koolaid and that I could count it as part of my water intake. I know that is definitely not the feeling here and I'm not promoting it, just saying what my doctor told me. I love the diet rite flavored soda. I think they are a great treat to have. Not a fan of cola but that's just me. I believe if they don't affect you negatively then enjoy.

| Thanks to all of you for your input. I do not want to use diet rite as a water substitute but was just wondering if it was as bad as aspartame sweetened sodas. Now I know I can indulge on occasion. |

| Frannie! Welcome! I had a thread in the challenges NO POP TIL YOU DROP(last month)! We stopped drinking diet pop for some 30 days...It was rough but, it helped some lose weight, feel better about themselves and I believe that some are more cautious about what they had been drinking and putting into their bodies! I had got some good advice from a very close friend that told me if I wanted to drop some weight that I needed to stop drinking the crap diet pop that it was worse than the regular stuff. He is a personal trainer and won strong man contests and such and I am glad that I listened to him! Just my two cents.
