Default Hello!

I am going to give my reasons in joining complete in a nutshell I am 29 years old and newly diagnosed with early stages of overian cancer. I am only 5' 1'' and weigh in at now 190 lbs. My doctors want me to drop 60 lbs and I also deal with hypoglecemia, a good friend asked me to look into a low carb diet to see if this would be the best way for me to go. So here I am totally new to everything

I came across your website and decided to learn from those around me who are more familiar with the low carb diet and how I am to begin. As well as what excerises are best to do that are good for starting out.

I have been reading through a lot of the posts and found some very helpful ideals. I do appreciate any suggestions.

Angelia

Welcome. There are many low carb plans available. I, and many others follow Atkins. However, there are others here that follow other plans. It is important that you understand how a low/controlled carbohydrate lifestyle works. It is also important that you pick a method/plan that will work for you and be something that you can keep for life. There are many books about low carb eating. I use Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. There are also a couple of other books that I have seen recommended that are more general in nature or provide a comparison of different low carb plans. Those books are:
Living the Low Carb Life by Johnny Bowden
The Secret to Low Carb Success by Laura Richards

As far as exercise is concerned, it is important. However, there are many variables to take into consideration when planning an exercise program. I suggest that you talk with your Dr. and find out about any limitations/recommendations he/she would have for you. Good luck

Welcome, Angelia. I agree completely with Henry, Maggie, & Nita (aka my mom!). Wise people they are. Make yourself at home here--I have! This is by far the best place to get advice & encouragement.

welcome angelina! love your tagline.

henry is quite right, as he generally is. to have the best success, you need to pick a low-carb plan and do your homework! understanding how it works and following a specific plan will make a huge difference in your success overall. the idea is that you are actually learning a new way of eating. in fact, you won't see too many peolple saying "diet" around here, because it's important to understand that you have to make changes in your habits and lifestyle that are permanent. with some practic, though, low-carbing becomes just the way you eat, and once you get going, you'll probably find it easier and more satisfying than any diet you've ever been on anyway!

and welcome. looking forward to getting to know you.

Nice to see you here, Angelia!

Sorry to hear of your health concerns, but very happy to hear that you caught your OC early.

Of course you'll hear many praises of LC here. For me it's been a lifesaver. I was wallowing in self pity before I decided to take the reigns back and take charge. It's not always been an easy road but this great group helps a ton!
