Hiya everyone This time I'm gonna get to my goal and stay there! I've been "yo yo" dieting for years but enough is enough so I thought if I joined this forum and had some inspiration from other people's stories then I can do it. Emma :-)

Welcome, Emma. Your profile shows that you don't have a terrribly large amount to lose, but sometimes those small amounts are just as frustratingly stuck as the large amounts some of us have. Here's the place to learn all about making this a lifestyle, a way of eating (woe), and getting healthy first, then losing weight second. You're going to learn how important veggies are, and if you're up to it, there are some interesting challenges you can jump in, which will help keep you on track. Happy lowcarbing!

Thank you. The frustrating thing is I'm a qualified fitness instructor and know slimming world and weight watchers inside out but I just go to extreme, get to my goal and as soon as I start munching away it all piles back on. I know I've not got a huge amount to lose but 28 pounds is a big deal to me because it means the differene between my boring wardrobe and my "sexy" one! Once I get going I know I can do it and already reading the stories has inspired me again. Off shopping tomorrow for the right foods. I think I'll try atkins again because did very well on that last time although felt rather strange come day 8! Im a bridesmaid in 14 days and would really like to drop half a stone if I can. Thanks for making me feel welcome :-)

| Emma, your enthusiasm is infectious! While losing 7 lbs in 2 weeks is not unheard of (especially for men-types!), that's a lot for such a short time. In any event, I'm sure you'll feel better and and look better by the wedding after 2 weeks on Atkins induction. Although, personally, I think you can't eat too many green leafy veggies - lettuces, brocolli, zucchini, asparagus etc. I wouldn't worry a bit about eating an extra cup or two of LC veggies each day. They are so low carb, you'd probably still be within 20 net. g of carbs for the day. And drink lots of water; especially if you work out a lot or it's very hot. Good luck! Let us know how it's going for you this week.

Right, day one and I'm off on this mission! Bit worried beacuse fella is taking me out for a meal this evening but I can still have chicken and veggies. I'm having a party on Saturday but that's a BBQ so ideal. I have decided I'm going to start properly on Sunday because then I'll have no excuses but in the meantime I'm going to be as near to perfect as I can be until then. The way I see it I've got 3 days before Sunday where I could be as good as possible rather than thinking I'll just binge out ready for Sunday! I'm a devil for anything sweet! One thing I find that helps is sugar free chewing gum because it tastes quite sweet. Is it ok to chew on this during the day? I get to about day 4 and my mouth tastes horrible, poor fella!

Best wishes, Emma. Ex-yo-yo here. I've been up and down the weight ladder many times--each time a little higher. At some point during the past three-plus years on Atkins, I turned a corner. NO MORE DIET! I'm into the lifestyle now, and it makes all the difference. Atkins has succeeded where no diet has before in actually changing my pattern of eating. I'm sure the addition of fats has a lot to do with that. Sugar-free subs can be found for most treats. But there's no good substitute--in flavor or nutritional value--for healthy fats. The more you learn, the more committed you'll be. We're glad to have this forum where sympathetic souls come to chat. Because truthfully, not many people in your life--your family, your friends, or your fitness clients--will be too open to the subject of low-carbing. You'll just have to show them!

emma-the gum may or may not be a problem for you. some people have a tough time with sweetner even, as it slows them down. i would also encourage you not to over-focus on lose-by dates, because you can end up easily feeling discouraged and like you've failed, even if you're doing great and have made terrific progress. instead, i prefer to set behavioral goals, like eating on plan x number of days, getting exercise in x days a week, etc. you will still get the payoffs for your healthy behaviors plus you get to feel successful whatever the scale says. the bad taste in your mouth, though, it good news, because it means you're burning fat! so celebrate that, maybe chew on a sprig of mint or something, and drink lots of water, which helps. good luck!

I'm not going to weigh myself all the time but thought I would this morning on the start of day 3 just to see how things are going and I've already lost 4lbs! I don't think those 7lbs will be out of the question by a week Saturday. I have listened to your advice though and I'm not going by weight. I've set myself goals and started doing the challenge clubs. I'm going to stick with plan until Saturday. Saturday is a hen night so although I will still stick to plan with my eating I'm not sure that the vodka I will consume in the evening is allowed! Was going to mix it with diet lemonade or diet coke though instead of having orange juice. Then I can get back to plan on Sunday.

Emma- You're suspicions are correct: Vodka isn't part of Atkins induction. Go figure, huh? The drinking may or may not kick you out of ketosis, but basically, your body will burn off the alcohol before it gets back to the business of burning fat, so do bear that in mind when you're making a decision to drink and how much. Also, please do be aware that low-carbing can greatly increase your sensitivity to alcohol, regardless of your previous tolerance levels. You may become the proverbial "cheap date." Please make sure you have a designated driver available, don't overdo too much, and enjoy your night out.

| I can attest to that! I'm 6'1" and while in Russia, I drank with the Russians (no small feat). Now that I'm on the LC, one beer and I have to take a walk before I feel good to drive home. Don't underestimate what the LC does to your tolerance.
