Red face New and need info/support

Hi Everyone!

I've been looking thru the posts on this forum and everyone has wonderful advice and is very supportive. I've learned that I need to get the Atkins book and keep plotting along one day at a time. I'm 5 days into induction and am not sure if I have lost any weight (I don't own a scale). I usually weigh myself at my gym, but had some sinus surgery two weeks ago, and can't exercise yet.

I noticed today that I was peeing very frequently and I had not had much water yet. I read this could be due to ketosis - have any of you experienced this?

My diet has consisted of eggbeaters (just switched to real eggs today), cheese, broccoli, celery, cucumbers, full-fat blue cheese dressing, chicken, steak, 2 cups coffee/day, equal, cream. Does this sound okay to you? I'm trying to drink more water, but this is really a challenge for me!

I would love any advice you can lend. I'm so glad I found this site and look forward to chatting in the future!

Hi Sasha,

Welcome to the site. I'm new to the LCing too. I've been on Atkins for 10 weeks so I'm not an expert but I have experienced frequent trips to the bathroom too when I first started. I believe that's normal. And your diet sounds good to me.

Keep up the good work.
Chris

erinn-welcome to low carb eating! this is a great, helpful community and i think you'll find lots of support and helpful info here. i sure did.

on your questions: do get the book as soon as you can. in the meantime, though, look at the atkins website to review the "rules" of induction. it will help keep you on track until you have a chance to pick up the book and read up completely.

in general, you may need more veggies in your diet overall. that's where you want to be getting most of your carbs from. try not to drop under 20 grams a day even in the beginning, and many of us didn't really limit the amount of vegetables we ate and did fine anyway. those are usually not the problem, it seems.

on the bathroom question, i'm not sure specifically in your case. early on in atkins (or any weight loss plan, actually), you do tend to lose water weight, which comes off first. while my b-room breaks took a dramatic upturn on atkins, i attributed it to my increased water consumption. so i couldn't tell you for sure; normally, if you're following atkins and it's working well for you, you will be able to tell with increased energy levels, decreased appetite, absence of food cravings, and better-fitting clothing. also, ketosis (which may come 3+ days into eating on-plan) often leaves you with a weird taste in your mouth and some funky breath. water helps.

on the water, it takes a while to work up. just keep working on it, because it CAN make a big difference in your overall success. if you're still drinking diet soda, you'd probably be better off limiting (or eliminating) that while you work on your water consumption. many save that for a "treat" item, and often for after induction. over time, you'll find that not only can you get your water in, but that you crave it and it tastes better than other drinks. go figure!

just keep hanging out, reading, and working on learning how your body works. the biggest indicators of success i have seen are persistance and a good attitude.

good luck!

Hi

I'm really new too!

Only joined up less than a week ago and found everyone to be very helpful and very supportive.

I'm only on day 1 so can't offer much advice at the moment but I can offer encouragement so stick with it and I'll stick with it with you!
