| Hi everyone. I have just started low carb eating again after going off for awhile (don't ask me why, it was working very well for me before). But I can't find the low carb products in my grocery store or even the local health food store like I used to see a couple years ago. Does anyone have suggestions? There was a really good low carb brownie mix (Krusteaz, I think), as well as low carb breads and such that were readily available, and now they seem to have disappeared since there is less hype about atkins and low carb. My teenage girls are doing the low carb thing with me this time, which is great. But they are getting awfully tired of eggs and beef and chicken. Where can I find the low carb products I keep hearing about? |

| After the rush of everybody to cash-in on the "low carb craze", when merchants found out they could not make a lot of money, most low-carb stores have gone out of business. Remember, low carb eating is more about eating natural foods than the "frankenfoods" that were many of the low carb speciality items. Unless you have a store that carries some of the everyday items, like low carb ketchup, that you can make, but that are more convenient to buy, you are pretty much left with ordering low carb items on-line. Here is a link to a popular store that has a flat shipping rate that I use for some of the things that I use that I cannot find locally http://www23.netrition.com/

| Hi Alp Welcome back to low carb eating. I want to urge you to go to the recipes on this Forum and find just about anything that you want. There are also lots of ideas about what to buy for lunch and to pack for snacks. The key is, as Henry said, natural ingredients. I never did get hooked on the lc snacks so much. I just love eating butter, "high" fat dressings (blue cheese, yumm) and nuts to snack on. Don't limit yourself to eggs and meat. Branch out into the fruits and veggies too. There are limitless choices. Peace, PEg

| and alp-do you have the atkins book and are you following it? you didn't mention vegetables at all, and that's where you are best off getting most of your carb allowance anyway. so i was wondering if you were doing things solo without the guidance of an established plan. it really does help early on esepcially to have a plan to follow. while the products can be nice sometimes, it's easy to overdo telling yourself it's "Ok" because it's low-carb. i found the most helpful for me was to get a few lc cookbooks to help with ideas and inspiration. good luck to you. |

| the Krusteaz Brownie mix is OUTSTANDING, but still at 9 carbs per lil square... thats quite high. anyhooo i always get mine at Dominicks (which i believe is Safeway too) though i have not looked for them in some time, as last time they were buy one get one, and i stocked up. plus as stated already -- using these "treats" can be difficult at times as you can get too used to them thinking they are just fine for your diet because they say low carb. It really is best to eat "real" foods. Meats, veggies, nuts and the sort and you just have to get creative sometimes to keep from getting bored. hope this helps, |
