| Hi, I've been on on low-carb for just over a month. Suddenly, today, meat tastes and smells bad to me. Did this happen to you? What did you do? Anyway, I've lost 30 pounds, and have 60 left to reach my goal. I value your advice, as I don't know what to do! At least cheese tastes good still :-D Thank you!!!!!! |

| I don't know what would cause that but WOW 30 pounds gone, great work. Just wanted to congratulate you on that. I'm one that can eat the same all the time which is why I go through brussel sprouts very quickly in my house. But maybe you can try a little more variety.

| I kinda went and still do go through the same thing. I try to add things to the meat I do eat such as mustard on turkey or worchestershire on steak, etc so that I am not just eating plain old meat. Also seasonings help a lot. Not sure why that happens though. I was a vegetarian because of that reason for 10 years up until a few weeks before starting Atkins... all of a sudden meat sounded good again! Go figure.... I guess some of us are just more sensitive to smell/taste than others?

| Welcome, Car. Which low carb eating plan are you following? It strikes me that none of them recommend, or would result in, a rate of loss of nearly 7 lbs per week. This puts great stress on various organ systems. Maybe your body is trying to tell you something? How about posting a couple of typical menus?

| Maggie: Thanks for the warning about rapid weight loss. Just about every day I eat cheese, peanut butter, fruit, sometimes a salad, and of course meat (I just had tuna, and it tasted OK). I used to get a ton more carbs, and ate mostly crackers, sodas, bread, rice, and beans, with a small portion of meat. I'm lazy. Do you think there is a way to slow down my weight loss without spoiling the diet, other than record keeping? CharmedLife: Thanks for the tips. Fascinating what a dramatic change you had. CushieButterfield: Thanks! |

| From your description, it sounds ike you're simply cutting out almost all carbs, which isn't healthy. In particular, you need a lot more veggies; these are healthy carbs You need to select a plan and get the book that accompanies the plan. That will help you find a healthy balance of good carbs, and allow you not only to lose weight, but find an approach you can actually maintain for a lifetime. Good luck. |
