| So I know about the mportance of drinking water. I started out drinking about 64 oz a day ( two nalgenes) and then read about the idea of drinking a gallon a day...it seemed unreasonable but I did it and it feels great and is not too hard to do and somehow it makes me loose more weight. So now my question is how does it work? I realize that at first when you start drinking lots of water it is water weight that you are loosing, but I am now on day 9 of induction, day three of drinking a gallon, am I still loosing water weight? If not, what are the mechanics/science behind this phenomenon? Thanks

| Okay... let me see if I can put this delicately... You can't lose fat unless it has someway to be moved out of your body. If you don't drink enough, then you can't excrete as much, and so there's nowhere for the fat to go. Now so that it's easier to understand... Fat that you lose is put out in your body's waste products. If you don't go to the bathroom as frequently as you should, then you can't lose the fat

| at your current weight, 70-75 oz of water should be OK... but again -- it's dang HOT out there. You need to stay hydrated. If you exercise, drink more than your 70+ oz per day. there are 2 ways to calculate your water intake: 1) half your weight in water (144 x 0.5 = 72) 2) 64oz + 8oz for every 25 pounds you want/need to lose you have 14 to go - figure 6oz for that 14... and you have 70oz. but the easiest way to calc it is, half your weight in water. didnt we used to have this great thread on water and what it does for you? I know we did yrs ago.... Here's the "water" sticky http://www.lowcarbeating.com/bb/showthread.php?t=8051 |

| tanya-i imagine by day 9, no, you're not losing water weight anymore. and yes, drinking a lot does help you lose. water does a lot for your body. pretty much every bodily function you have inolves water. not enough slows your metabolism. water eliminates wastes, removes toxins, and helps keep your skin soft and supple. my skin is 10X better since i became a water-chugging diva, and i think it's a lot of the reason i haven't had lots of problems with excess skin as i'm losing a large amount of weight is due to drinking the water. drinking water is definitely one of the most overlooked ways to help keep your losses going, and easy, too! glad to hear it's working for you! |

| Hey guys thanks for this input. I also just reread some stuff out of the atkins book and came across something having to do with excreting extra calories through the urine when in ketosis (I dont have the book in front of me right now, so I am paraphrasing) I am thinking that might have something to do with it also...
