I lost nearly 40 pounds on a low carb system. In the last year and a half I have regained nearly 20 of those pounds.

I can't seem to get my body into ketosis. What could I be doing wrong?

I'm having the same problems. I lost 40 lbs. very quickly (3 months) a few years ago, but have gained some weight back recently. I can't seem to get into ketosis at all and cannot lose any weight. The good thing tho, is now that I am backto lc I am not gaining anymore either.

When I started following the Atkins approach I did not know if it would work. However, what I did "know", from the research I did as well as the comments from people on various low carb sites, was that if it worked for me, it would have to be something I did for the rest of my life. This was because it was very clear that if you go back to a non-lowcarb WOE, you will regain the weight. With respect to getting back into ketosis, you need to keep your daily carb count low enough for a long enough period for your body to use up its stored glucose. This is usually 3-4 days maximum. However, YMMV. If you are having trouble getting back into ketosis, I suggest you look carefully at what you are eating to make sure you are not taking in hidden carbs and that your total daily carbs are 20 or less.

Rockky,
Welcome I would love to see a menu, please post what have been eating You might need to hop back into Induction again and limit the carbs, and nix any bars, shakes, anything with sugar alchols anything like that. You should be right back into Ketosis if you do that.

Are you working out? And great job on the 40 pounds!

rockky- with pretty much no info to work with here (other than you've regained weight), it's more or less impossible to give you any useful suggestions.

are you following a specific low-carb plan? which one? do you have to book for the plan? do you actually follow the plan, or do more your own thing? how much are you looking at losing overall?

and putter, i'd ask you more or less the same questions.

the folks here are great at helping you find problem areas and/or adjust to get things back on track, but they need some facts to work with.

and please do bear in mind that seeing ketosis indicated on sticks or whatever is NOT the same thing as progress, but merely one indication of progress. some people never register on the sticks but lose fine. some people register like crazy but don't lose. some people would register but drink lots of water, so they don't. so don't use that as the gold standard for how you're doing.

peace out, folks.

Thank you so much for the responses! I'm having a bit of trouble navigating this site. I need to spend more time here.

PQ311, you may have found my answer. When I started the diet four or five years ago, the commercial products weren't available. Now they seem to be unloading the bars, etc. in discount outlets. I picked up a few boxes of Pria Carb Select Peanut Butter Caramel Nut Bars. Only 2 impact carbs! The dern things do taste very good. Guess they need to go to the back of the shelf.

I just looked at the Morning Start Apple bars that I often ate. They have a much lower amount of sugar alcohols.

I am working out, but when I lost the greatest amount I was working in public school and running the halls with a bunch of 16yo kids. It was a part of the job, and didn't need to be scheduled. I retired almost 2 years ago, and my everyday life is more sedentary. I do try to walk about a mile a day, and I do floor exercises.

I also need to go back and reread the stuff I used when I started.

I eat a lot of salads, almonds, swiss cheese, chicken, and fish. I did eat ground flax seed every morning before work. I can't seem to kickstart that habit again.

I had to do a course of Prednisone about a year and a half ago. That seemed to be where it started. I gained body mass before the scale began to go up. Then the doctor put me on Fosomax. I went off of it for a couple of different reason. I seemed to gain weight on it, but maybe it was something that was just going on at the same time as the meds. I do think I have a hormone thing going on, but I intend to ignore that and go back to the beginning.

I don't know if this info will offer anymore insight to anyone. I'm open to any and all suggestions. Thanks again!

Welcome, Rockky. And great going on those first 40 lbs!

If you want to get in your flaxseed meal every day, try the one minute muffin. You'll find a sticky on it in the Low Carb Cooking forum. It's the tastiest way to get in your fiber, and there are so many variations on it that you surely won't get bored. And, if my DH can cook one every day, the ANYBODY can make one! And you don't need the bars and shakes if you can make a quick muffin when you need a snack or a quick breakfast.

Are you drinking enough water? Try to get at least 64 oz a day, in addition to any other drinks, and stay away from aspartame-sweetened soft drinks. Some of us have just abandoned soft drinks altogether, and find that we really don't miss them, or the dent they made in our wallets.

Holler if you need any more help.

Thanks, Nita! Yeah. I'm doin' the water thing. I was getting more when I was working. I kept a bottle with me all the time. I had an unvaried system in place then. I do add lemon juice and Splenda to the bottles. It goes down much easier.

I don't drink any diet sodas, so it wasn't a problem for me to give them up. I switched from Equal to Splenda a few years ago.

I noticed the flax muffin recipe a few days ago. As a matter of fact, I thought about looking it up again this morning. I need to give that a try! I have found the Golden Flax seems to taste better than the regular stuff.

I've been doing three miles on an exercise bike, a fast walk on the tread mill, and floor exercies each day. I may not be dropping fast, but it does give me more energy.

I need to remember that I never did lose the weight as fast as other people seem to lose it. I'll blame that on my ancestors.

I find they're a little dry when they're toasted. I tend to add DaVinci Sugar Free syrup or a little fruit to them to give them different flavors. (And yes, I like the Golden FlaxSeed meal too.)

Also try adding Hazelnut, Coconut or Almond Meal to get different textures.

The thread for the one-minute muffin has like 200+ posts. They really are a great addition to the diet. Between that and the Mock danish, this site is worth every penny I pay for it

Many thanks, spride!!! I'm still learning where to find info on the site. I did find the mock danish recipe. I'll try that next.

I am losing weight again. Flaxseed seems to be my personal, magic elixer. I used to mix it with some Splenda, hot water, and top it with a tiny bit of half-and-half. It was my version of 'oatmeal'. I really like the muffins. The flaxseed is much more enjoyable.

I want to try adding some spices like basil to the basic recipe. Italian spices and cheese should make a great base for 'white pizza'.

I'm very pleased to have found this site!!!

I've tried many combinations of flax seed and soy flour but never found that exceptable of a pizza crust. I know some which insist on using a crisped low-carb wrap. The pizza kit sold on netrition.com is actually pretty good...

If you do find an exceptable pizza base, by all means, share
