| Okay, I need a little help!! I am feeling really discouraged after (going on my 3rd week of lc) only losing 3-4 lbs. I am not sure what i am doing wrong!! I do still have 1 cup of coffee in the mornings w/Splenda. Typical day of eating is as follows: Breakfast=1 cup of coffee w/3 packets of Splenda a few peanuts (Not usually hungry in the am) Lunch=Tuna salad w/boiled cauliflower (buttered) Dinner=Baked chicken w/broccoli & cauliflower (melted cheese) Nothing but water to drink the rest of the day after coffee! Any suggestions!!!??!?!? |

| Are you following a particular low carb plan? If not, I suggest you look at several and decide which is right for you. Are you exercising? How much weight are you trying to lose? You have not included any information in your profile, so any response is more like shooting in the dark. However, one thing that I notice is that you do not appear to be eating enough calories. It could be that because of your reduced caloric intake your body is acting in a starvation mode and trying to preserve its weight. If so, you need to increase your calories, as strange as that may sound. With more information, we may be able to come up with some other suggestions.

| First, lets get things in perspective. After 3 weeks you have lost 10% of the weight you are trying to lose!! Congratulations. You should not try to compare your weight loss to your husband's. As you read DANDR you will see that people lose weight at different rates and women seem to lose slower than men. To get an idea of how many calories you should be eating, just to maintain your current weight, you can use this link: http://www.weightlossforgood.co.uk/c...calculator.htm I cannot tell from your information how tall you are, but I suspect that the amount of food you are eating has caused your metabolism to slow down. Using that calculator and assuming you are 5'3" with moderate exercise, you would need to consume over 2100 calories a day to maintain your current weight. I suggest you plug in your actual information to get an idea of what, from a caloric intake basis, you should be looking at to just maintain your current weight. Then look at how many calories you are currently consuming. If there is a big difference, it would be an indication that your body may think it is in starvation mode and you should increase your calories to kick start your metabolism. Also, you should be aware that with less than 30 pounds to go, your weight loss will probably be slower. Remember, that the objective of the Atkins approach is to learn healthy eating habits that will sustain your weight loss for a lifetime. I have found that peanuts can slow my weight loss. You may want to find something else to have for breakfast. Perhaps a one minute muffin (see the cooking forum) would be something that would work for you. In any event, you should not be discouraged with your 10% loss in 3 weeks, that is very good. Good luck.

| Contrary to popular belief, low carb is NOT a quick weight loss plan, although some people do lose quickly, especially those who have 100+ lbs to lose. Losing 3 or 4 lbs in 3 weeks is fantastic! Some of us are happy to lose a lb a month, we are such slow losers. Take it slow, learn good healthy eating habits, take your time losing the weight. Drink plenty of water, eat your veggies, and enjoy your journey. It's not a quick sprint, it's a marathon, and takes time to get to the finish line. Some people have no problems with caffeine, others do. Some drink pots of regular coffee and still lose, others find they do much better w/o the caffeine. Each of us is different in that regard. Welcome to our group, and come back often. |

| I love that response to "How can I lose more weight" Eat more! Especially protein at breakfast. Nuts aren't the best for some people. Cottage Cheese worked for me early on. But Eggs and Bacon are better. I also don't see enough leafy green things in your diet. And are you also (shudder) exercising? The diet will help you lose weight, but the exercise will make it fly. I'm not asking for a ten mile jog every morning, but half an hour of cardio (or just below cardio) intensive exercise three times a week will do you wonders.
