| I am making yet another attempt with this WOE. And I am wondering if the scale hinders or helps me? I am 226 on one scale, 232 on another and 236 on another? Who do I believe. Of course I want to believe the 226...but if the 236 is true that is 10 pounds!?? Does the weight really matter? Is that going to be my only accheivement to brag about? I lost this.... I thought about doing the inches thing however, I have to say that I am not sure that I measure in the right spots and the SAME spots each time. I met a girl in Florida that only went by how her jeans/clothes fit her? She said that she hadn't weigh in...in years? She couldn't even guess. I thought that is unreal, it seems that everyone goes by the scale, heck my mood changes with the scale!? And she hasn't stepped on in years? So are clothes falling off enough of an acchievement?? Is the mirror enough? Are compliments enough? Or do we really need the scale. Does anyone have any thoughts, stories, ideas on this??? Thanks!

| I notice a lot of difference between scales, so I always figure the number is an approximation. As far as it goes, I'd rather lose size (volume) than weight. Jeans fitting is one way to measure progress, but jeans stretch between washing so that can be deceiving, too. I'm sure as you practice you'll get better at hitting the same spot for measuring.

| PQ, the scale is only an approximation. However, for consistency I would pick one scale and use it exclusively. Then, over time, you will have a better chance of seeing how much weight you have actually lost. That is more important than what number you started with.

| And make sure that the scales you choose weigh you consistently. I had a set that would weigh you differently if you stepped on them 3 times in a row - 3 different readings! I use one set, it's a really good scale, and I weigh nearly every day now. It didn't work to wait days or weeks. During a previous weight loss, I didn't even have a decent set of scales, I just went by my clothes, and when I dropped a size, I knew I had lost a lot of weight. |

| I think the whole scale issue is a personal thing...meaning, each of us is different and different things work for different people. I think that when i am being VERY consistent with logging my food choices on fitday and staying super true to this WOE I do better without the scale. That being said....when I am not logging every single bite that goes into my mouth the scale helps to keep me from lying to myself about how it's affecting me. I don't have a scale in my house....I would obsess....so i weigh when I need to at curves....and ONLY at curves on the same scale every time.

| Thanks everyone, this give me a better idea of what everyone goes through and feels at the same time. I used have a scale back in the day that was called (THINNER) I think that I picked that one just because of the sublimial message or not so sublimial. Nita, I believe that you and I had the same scale, I would step on and it would weigh me let's say 220 then the second try 221 and then the 3rd would be 219. I thought huh? That is a big jump? Of course being the teens was better but, was I really still in the 20's or not? I think that I am going to ditch the scale to be honest, I don't have one at this time and I think that I am just going to stop obessessing amount a dumb number and start concerning myself on how I feel, look mirror reflections and if someone says,,,are you losing weight? (which is so much better than the alternative, you've put on some weight) Sunday starts the day that I got back 100%, I am dreading the first 2 days of induction. I am going to start my vits early and start with the water today. Wish me luck, I am going to need it, it is going to be a long haul to 60 pounds. Thanks for everyone support and input as always!! PQ

| PQ, I'm glad that you're back. Scales; one day you love them one day you hate them. I bought a fancy one and use it daily. It almost exclusively ruins my day, but I am a glutton for punishment. I like it when my pants are too loose but... don't like it when my bra size is going down. Oh how I wish I could keep some things but not others. chelsea |

| I think the scale thing depends on where you are at mentally. For me, it was good until I hit 122 lbs. And then I HATED the scale because nothing would move me below that #. I got on the scale every day - 4 or 5x even - though I hated the scale - and obsessed. To me, that was unhealthy and not good and just stressed me. Once I hit that number, I realized I could no longer go by weight as a means of success. So I started focusing on fat loss instead and that turned things around for me. Now I only get on the scale once a week to see where I am and that's it. And I no longer obsess over the numbers. If I'm 111 lbs one week and 113 lbs the next, I'm okay with that. At least I'm still within my goal range and at least I'm still 65+ lbs thinner. I think if everyone - in the beginniing of a healthier eating lifestyle - would focus more on fat loss than weight loss, we'd all be in better shape. |

| I started on Sunday, I am holding strong and I am NOT I am going to just lose it and be done with it. Even though I am goal orientated, but my scale days are behind me. I hope. When my double chin in gone, when my jeans fall off my butt that I already don't have ( I carry everything in the belly and inner thighs!ugh!!!) and when someone says...you are getting thin! That is improvement. I doing this for health reasons too. I want to be able to stuff without being out of breath...ya know? thanks everyone!

| Congrats on re-starting Atkins and feeling better already. I keep putting off my start date but perhaps I will follow your example and just go for it. I have to admit to having a new set of sales and you can step on ten times and they are so accurate, they are the body fat scales, expensive but reliable. I think though that the true way is to measure or go by your clothes, it soon shows when you are truely losing weight, Keep up the good work, I shall be joining you in re-starting soon myself. luv Lynn. x
