Cool Re: Newbie in a house full of carbs....

I've heard of Max's Cafe, not sure if there is one here in SR (I'll look it up).

The main reason I was looking for (eat-out) hot spots is because I commute (by bus) from Santa Rosa to San Francisco for work (approx. 4hr one-way).

So, in my 16hr days there are times I just don't have time or the patience to cook.

The two places I've Eaten at were:

Lori's Diner : I had a double patty Swiss and mushroom burger w/o bun, with a side of coleslaw, and a diet coke.

Denny's: I had a double cheeseburger w/o bun, SUB-ed the fries for 2 over easy eggs, and a diet coke.

I've also had a couple burgers from Carl's JR. and Mcdonald's by just removing the bun.

I guess I'm mostly looking for Fast-ish Food, other than burgers.... lol...

Hey Mario...how about KFC? I get the grilled chicken (which is only available in some locations) and a side order of green beans.

carl's Junior will fix any of their burgers LC style for you. They wrap it in lettuce leaves instead of a bun. I love the LC six dollar burger...but wait...you are looking for something other than burgers....sorry.

Subway will make any of their sandwiches into a salad, as will Submarina, so with careful choices they might be an option.

Quiznos has a couple of good salads just watch out for the dressing...it's always loaded with carbs.

Panda Express has a few good LC options too. I usually get stemed veggies and mushroom chicken. They have their nutritional info on their website.

most pizza places have chicken wings...just watch out for sugary sauces. chicken wings and a side salad make a nice meal.

Can you tell that I find myself out and about with DH alot and he loves fast food so I have had to learn to eat at fast food places and still maintain my way of eating!?

I never would have thought to substitute eggs for the fries...what a great idea!

    Mario!

Low Carb is a whole new lifestyle and trust me, after a while you just get used to it and don't want to eat those previous comfort foods. I was able for the first time last night, turn down my three year old neices "sharing" of her candy. I felt terrible because she doesn't normally share and I had to turn her down, but was so proud of myself and denying the m&m's.

I also have found it helpful to keep a food journal and to keep track of how many carb you ate that day. If you write it down in ink, it's hard to take it back.

    Just an idea... welcome!

Jack in the Box and McDonalds now carry a variety of big dinner salads with grilled chicken.

Watch out for the coleslaw, though. Most coleslaw dressings have a fair amount of sugar.
