Hi everyone, I have been gone since June. I originally went on Atkins to lower my tryglicerides which I did and lost 30 lbs in the process too. Well, I am back again having gained back 10 of the 30 lbs I lost. I am probably pre-diabetic after all the sugar I consumed over Christmas! I need lots of support and lots of help. My daughter is getting married in June and I don't want to be a fatty. I even joined Curves after Christmas. I never did lose all of the weight I needed too either. I need to lose 50 lbs by June......Is it possible?????

Anything is possible, but there are so many factors that come into play in weight loss. If that is your goal go for it, and do your best to keep your plan to reach it. Never give in. (my favorite Churchill quote)

Frannie, how much you lose depends on your particular metabolism, and how faithfully you stick to your plan. It's possible to lose 50 lbs, but it's also possible that you'll lose a lot less. Then again, you could be one of those who loses fast and could lose a lot more than 50! Just stick to your plan, and work on building your health, and then whatever weight you are for the wedding, you'll look fabulous because you are a healthy Mom of the bride. Wishing you much success.

Fran, along with your change in diet the best thing you can do to help you reach your goal is start walking daily. It can be as much as 5 minutes a day when your starting out but build it up from there. Set a long term goal of walking 45 to 60 minutes a day. That may seem huge at first but if you add a minute more each day you will reach that goal in a reasonable amount of time. Walking is the best thing for you and is really inexpensive to do. Just get a comfortable pair of running shoes ($40 to 60). They will give your feet the best support. Ed

hello frannie. welcome back! while i understand your desire to look good for your daughter's wedding-i would want to, too!-i would caution you to consider avoiding the goals of "losing X pounds by Y date" kind of goals. from my observation, people almost never make these sorts of goals as they are always based on perfect scenarios with nothing coming up, no slowdowns or snags, and a body that cooperates perfectly 100% of the time. yeah, you know? it just doesn't happen. at least, not usually in my world. so when somebody loses 35 pounds instead of 50 in the allotted time, they end up feeling like a failure even though they're doing great! but instead, you're left feeling discouraged and unsuccessful. that serves no one. instead, i suggest behaviorally-oriented goals, which you have complete control over (and which also get you where you're going, too.) you can have a goal to work out 3 times a week, for example, or to eat on plan 90% of the time or to drink X amount of water each day or whatever. this you have complete control over, and if you pursue healthy goals, the weight does come off. plus you can feel successful each time you make your short-term goal, and that reinforces what you're doing. happy people don't need sugar therapy, man. good luck to you.
