| Hi everyone!! I am now back on atkins after a few months. I have been really super good through induction and lost only 3 lbs in 2 weeks. Well I am not really complaining about that just wonderin.... In June when I dropped 18 lbs for my wedding I lost 8 in my first week-and wasn't quite as "on game" as this time. I do however, have a tremendous amount of stress and worry in my life right now. So whats the vote could this be the almighty cortisol I have read about? Post back with some ideas suggestions maybe one of them will hit the target/Live Well and Love Well, Thanks, Tammie PS At 161 this a.m. goal is revised at 120. I am 5'5". Started at 164. |

| Hey Tammie, I am having the same trouble. I lost 76 on a low carb diet before then I stopped doing it partly because I was trying to get pregnant and partly because I was just being lazy (its easier to eat poorly). Well its 10 months later and I have put my weight on + some. I have now started back 2 weeks on track and 4lbs gone. The first time I lost 7 pounds the first week so 4lbs is rough to take. I am hoping if I stick to it I will dump some extra pounds all at once. Good luck to you... p.s. My mother has always called me Sweet Cheeks.

| Well, ladies, it could be any number of variables - with women it's probably hormonal, either too much or too little! I'm also convinced that it's harder to lose in the winter - I think our bodies want to hang onto the fat to keep us warm. (Not scientific at all.) And, yes, stress can make your body want to hold onto its fat reserves, protecting you from whatever is "attacking" it. And what woman isn't under stress? When we're young, we have our fluctuating cycles to deal with, as we age, we have our up and down hormones trying to decide whether or not we are ready for menopause, after we hit menopause, our bodies slow down, we have the stress of juggling busy schedules, taking care of our homes, either being full-time moms (a really hard job), or holding down a job AND taking care of a family, or dealing with the trials of aging, some have to take care of aging parents.........I could go on and on. This is my third go-round with low carb. It was much easier and much faster when I was younger, and I wish I had been able to keep it off; however, I did not have the support system I have now, and all the weight came back. This time I'm somewhat older, and it is just a lot slower losing. But I am not abandoning this woe, even if I don't lose another ounce. I just feel so much better eating this way to go back to my old ways. So, take your time, but stick with it. Be patient, it will come off, and you get the bonus of good health while you are on your journey. And I wish you both much success. |

| Just want to mention another variable here: The more times you go on and off ketosis, the harder it gets to loose weight through a ketogenic diet. Over time your body can become more resistant to weight loss through an Atkins/LC approach. Sorry to say this, but it is very true.

| I think there's something to that, Jason. I dare say that, although I don't test it regularly anymore, I've probably been in ketosis since 1998. I've always had a bit of ketosis and an anion gap on routine blood work since then. By LC'ing, I normalized my BGL's rather quickly and normalized my weight over the course of 2 years. I've maintained my normal A1C's since 1998 pretty consistently. I've never gained back more than a few pounds since then. However, as I diabetic, whenever I've suffered trauma (broken ribs, gum surgery, a bout of gastroenteritis, etc.) I go through a period of higher BGL's - this in spite of maintaining my usual way of eating (er, except for the gastroenteritis, LOL, where pretty much "nothing" seemed to be a good option for a couple of days). The point is, that whenever my BGL's go out of whack, some pounds creep on - in a matter of days, sometimes. Like a pound a day for the duration of the abnormal BGL's. Getting back to normal usually invovles eating in my usual fashion, but eating less of some things for a while. Not so I'm hungry, mind you, just reducing my intake of some things that I don't normally pay any attention to - like heavy cream, nuts, alcohol, etc. Usually the calorie dense stuff. If I don't do this, I don't keep gaining, but once the BGL's are back in line, will maintain at the "new" weight. When both things are back to normal, I stop paying attention and I maintain my weight and BGL's without any particular attention to specific items and I'm back on an even keel again. Metabolism is a strange business.

| Wow Maggie, broken ribs? Touch wood, I have never broken anything (unless you count plates) SweetCheeks, maybe you can post your menu, try and be exact rather than "chicken salad with a little mayo".
