Is it okay to eat a cup of dry roasted peanut a day? It is kind of salty. Thanks!

Welcome. Dry roasted peanuts have 3.8 net carbs per ounce. Depending on the level of carbs you are trying to consume, you may or maynot be able to handle a cup. However, nuts are a calorie dense food and peanuts do cause stalls or weight gain. I personally have verified that effect on me a couple of times, so I try to avoid them, simply because when I get started eating them, it is hard to stop.

    Welcome, Coolsista.

    Good advice from Henry.

As you mentioned, they're salty and high sodium foods often cause a temporary upswing on the scales. Salt doesn't create or add to your fat. The extra weight is only water retention and, therefore, temporary. If you have good water intake, the sodium will let go and the scales will go down again.

Just something to keep in mind if you see a sudden increase in weight. Think about what you ate yesterday. Chances are that (if you're otherwise on track for your program) you had something high in sodium.

Hope you'll make yourself at home.

Coolsista, also watch what ingredients are added to those nuts. You'll often find sugar added. Peanuts don't need sugar, so why bother adding it? Just plain old roasted peanuts are better, but if you don't have control over your eating, you'd be best to either divvy them up into small servings, or forego them altogether. My husband buys peanuts in the shell, and sits in the evening and shells & eats them for a snack. He prefers them unsalted, too.

Welcome, and wishing you success on your low carb journey.

    Welcome, Sista.

Peanuts are great, aren't they? You've already got the "watch-its" from the other folks here. My biggest problem for eating nuts is that once i start, i suddenly look down and a huge amount has mysteriously disappeared. they are pretty high calorie as well. while you usually don't have to watch calories with low carb, depending on one's age, metabolism, and place in their journey, sometimes it becomes prudent.

so i have them as an occassional treat.

    good luck to you!
