Hello eveyrone I am back and ready to stick to this WOL now. I left to try Weight Watchers but that did not work, and the recent possitive news about LC eating has eased my mind. I have been on induction for a little over 2 weeks, my keto strips are very purple showing lots of ketones being passed but have a few questions. Can I have caffine in moderation? I love my diet Mt Dew (I have not had in a few weeks) and a couple cups of coffee in the morning. I cant remember if this is a NO NO or not. Thanks.

It depends on how your system reacts to caffeine whether or not you need to omit it, or cut back on it. Each person is different. I have cut way back on it, and just feel better for it, although I do have at least one cup of regular coffee a day during the week (it's what we have at work), and I don't limit my tea, except in the evenings, because it can keep me awake at night. As for the diet Mt. Dew, I have always loved it, but it has aspartame in it, and it can be a problem for some people. They also have added sucralose to it, and acesulfame, and the last time I had it, I found it to be way too sweet. I could hardly finish the bottle. Of course, drinking lots of water is the best advice any of us can give you.

| Denny, WELCOME BACK! ![]() I think I remember you!! Well, Nita has already given you some great advice -- I would only add that you definitely need to cut back on caffeine. I drank 2 cups of coffee the whole time I was doing induction, etc. with no negative side effects. But this really IS a YMMV thing (your mileage may vary). For SOME people, caffeine increases hunger and cravings making it darn near impossible to stay on this woe (way of eating). For now, I would DEFINITELY cut out the Diet Mt. Dew -- at least until the end of induction. When you move on to OWL (ongoing weight-loss), then you can add one a day back in at the end of the day. I would certainly only add it in AFTER you have drank all your water for the day. Water is a BIG deal with this woe... And on that note, if your strips are turning that dark, it's a pretty good indication that you are NOT drinking enough water. Make sure you drink NO LESS than 8-10 glasses (or half your weight in ounces) per day. This is SO important and it will definitely help the weight shed faster! I wish you the best of luck,

Thanks everyone, I used to drink one Diet MT Dew a day (2 lieter) and several cups of coffee. Now I am down to 1 cup of coffee, maybe 2 on weekends and no Dew, I have added diet green tea a few times a week, I hope that is ok, cant find out much about green tea. I just read more and found that my water is probably not enough I have been drinking only half a gallon a day.

Green tea is great for you, full of antioxidants. White tea has even more, but if you like just plain black tea, it's also full of health benefits. Hot or cold, sweet or not, tea is a wonderful beverage to add to your daily diet. Some say that adding dairy to your tea negates the health benefits, but I love a cup of hot tea, sweet with cream added. No better way to soothe the jagged nerves.

Denny- I would also suggest you might want to see about getting ahold of a copy of the Atkins book, since you mention induction and it sounds like you don't have a book currently. For a few bucks, it really is probably the best investment you can make, and will make it much easier for you to make informed choices. Welcome back!
