| Hello Are there any good articles or strategies, advice on how to switch from a low calorie life style to restricted carb? I've heard nightmare stories of people experiencing weight gain when they did this. I have followed Atkins about 5 years ago. I gained back all the weight. Then I followed a low cal routine and lost 30 lbs. I've been maintaining this for about a year. I would like to get back to low carb and try to shed 10-15 more lbs and then maintain. I just needs some pointers. Thanks in advance! |

| Hi Nina, Welcome to LCE Advice I'd give about re-starting LC is to get out your Atkins book, re-read the plan and then jump into Induction. You may experience a slight weight gain, but after a few days on LC, you will most likely see a nice loss as your body starts to *de-tox* and gets rid of the glycogen stores. Do the plan by the book, drink plenty of water(at least eight 8oz glasses a day or more if you can), and add in exercise. Progress your carb intake after induction by 5 gms per week and try and eat whole foods and avoid the LC*junk* food(stuff with sugar alcohols). Post often and let us know how it's going for you. This is a great place for support and friendship on your weight loss journey. HTH

| There are a few people here who watch their calories as well as their carbs. Some seem to have good success. Personally, counting calories is a pain, and counting carbs is just so much easier. Shelley's right, find a plan you like, read the book, and follow it to the letter. Atkins is a great plan, and since you've done it before, you're familiar with the general idea behind it. Wishing you success on your low carb journey. |

| After reading Dr. Roisin & Dr. Oz's "You: On a Diet" I have thought about how I could incorporate their ideas and stay on a LC plan (since this is the one "diet" that my DH has fully embraced). One suggestion would be to watch how much of the higher fat things you consume that LC plans allow - ie. cream, butter, cheese, (especially cream cheese/cheesecake), mayonnaise, bacon, sausage, etc). I think if you stick with lower fat proteins, tons of veges, maybe add insome low fat cheese, and use olive oil and cooking spray for your cooking fat needs (in place of butter, lard, etc) you'll probably be on track. Also, to reiterate, drink your water. Most of us have the best success when we're consuming at least 64oz. per day (even better when it's 1/2 your body weight in oz. per day... up to a gallon). It just seems to help flush your system and, i dunno, lubricate the fat to help it slide right out of your system? Can't explain it, it just works great! Keep us posted on your progress and how you've tweaked your diet. I'm really interested to see how things work out for you! Wishing you much success!
