Default Complete Newbie Seeks Help

Hello all,

I'm seeking to lost about 10 pounds for work (dancer) (I'm currently 120 pounds). My main problem is eating junk food and snacks and I'm young but have come to the realization that I'm not going to have this body forever if I keep doing this. I've found a book I think I can stick to and I've planned a realistic road map for myself. But I have a few questions I'm hoping some of you can help me clarify:

1) How long does one stay on induction before transitioning?

2) What's the biggest change in food intake that I need to make after the first 14 days.

3) I'm planning on working out (spinnning class 3 times a week) and I have a very hectic work schedule and don't want to feel fatigue or faintish. Any recc. i.e drink more water, specialty foods, should I take supplements?

I welcome any other advice, suggestions and recommendations from all of you.

Thank you in advance !

Welcome, Kinsey.

Which book is it that you are using?

ah, you have acheived wisdom beyond your years, evidently. congratulations on realizing this.

you don't mention what plan you have. since you are saying induction, does that mean you're doing atkins? or another plan that uses induction? for atkins, induction is normally 2 weeks. some folks stay on it longer, but with such a small amount of weight to lose and having a high activity level, i wouldn't consider suggesting an extended induction as appropriate for you anyway.

i'm not familar with all the low carb plans, but i know with atkins, there is no BIG change after the first 2 weeks. it's a small change: adding 5 carbs a day from veggies, fruit, or maybe nuts. but if you have the book for whatever plan, it will no doubt walk you though it all.

drinking lots of water is always helpful for sure! i also suggest everyone take at least a good mutli-vitamin supplement, regardless of their plan. if you're concerned about feeling faintish and week, you may want to spend a few days ramping down on your junk food consumption before you start all-out low carbing. if you're coming from eating a lot of junk to full-blown lc'ing, it's very common to have about 3-4 days of feeling like total crap. it's sometimes referred to as "the induction flu" and it's your body detoxing and withdrawing from all the sugar stuff.

be patient! starting where you are and as an active person already, you may have some difficulty losing, and regardless, it will probably take some time. with less weight to lose, it's slower.

more than anything, it sounds like you are looking at focusing on simply eating healtiher. that's great. the weight, such that it is, is probably not that much of an issue for you. lc is GREAT for an active lifestyle, and you'll find yourself with extra energy once you get past the inital adjustments. plus, when you're eating lc, your exercise is actually more effective because your body doesn't have the carbs to burn before hitting the fat. so i think you'll find exercise and lc together a killer combo.

good luck to you and let us know how it goes!
