| Hey there! Don't beat yourself up too bad, OK? Because you are changing your whole way of eating this is a learning process. So sit down and do some thinking or journaling and figure out just what you've learned from the last 2 days. Then get back on that proverbial horse and continue moving forward. Remember, you didn't let us down... we're your support group. We're here to help and listen - good or bad. One thing you might consider causing your frequent trips to the loo is the sugarfree chocolate binge. What was it sweetened with? Malitol? That's usually what is used. Pretty much any sugar alcohol (ingredients ending in -tol usually) cause "gastric distress" in most people - especially when consumed in large quantities. I've never heard of cheese causing that type of a problem, though. Usually quite the opposite - a, *ahem,* constipating effect. I suspect it was the candies. Hang in there girl! You can do this! (And may I suggest the 3-minute chocolate cake instead of sugarfree candies next time you want a dessert? It's much healthier and very satisfying). We're all pulling for ya!

| You definitely wouldn't want to eat the sugar free chocolates before church. They do make a person noisy. I agree with Mada the trips to the "loo" were probably caused by the chocolates. If you look around through the threads you'll see that there are posts about the sugar alcohols causing cravings. I suspect that you may have gone on your binge because they got your blood sugars raging. (I think Maggie did a lot of research on which sugar substitutes didn't cause blood sugar spikes for her, you might want to read that too.) No worries though, stay away from the sugar free candies and stick to the recipe section where there are things that you can eat safely. You'll do great. |

| Yep, it was probably the sf chocolates that did you in. Maltitol is horrible! It makes your stomach churn and rumble and cramp and then you're running to the loo, again and again and again. And it definitely can make you crave carbs, because in some people it causes major blood sugar spikes, just like Chestnut said. Make today a fresh start, perhaps keep a food diary so you know what you've eaten, and that might help you figure out if certain foods trigger cravings. Everyone is different, and some people might have problems with foods where someone else might not. You haven't let us down, you've just had a hiccup in your woe, that's all. |

it wasn't the cheese, dear. it was the franken-chocolate, i'd lay money. but everybody's gotten figure out what it does to them personally. check out andrea's article on sugar alcohols for a detailed explanation of how the stuff works. i know i've had some stomach cramps from malitol (one of the worst offenders among sugar alcohols) that made me double over in bed and wish i'd never heard of "russell stover." i won't touch the stuff now! most likely, that also is what set off the binge. many of us find that eating things like that will stimulate cravings for us. for some, even something that tastes sweet is enough to do it! for others, it's real sugar. and you didn't let anybody down-us or even yourself. realistically, you slowed your own progress a bit, but that's it. since this is a lifetime change and not a race, that doesn't matter a whit! the only thing that matters here is that you take whatever you can from the experience, and USE it to help your overall progress. Quote:
you can make this work for you, if you want. it's not really about your binge. it's about learning what works for you and what doesn't. and i'd say you've learned a couple of very valuable lessons here that can ADD to your overall success. i mean, let's look at it...what is here to learn? if i were guessing, i'd say a few things:
and if you do make an eating choice you don't feel good about at the time, does following up with something like "what the heck-i'm off-plan already so chuck it!" help you feel better? so maybe, next time it comes up (and it does come up), you can bear this in mind. you can do one of two things with this incident: feel lousey and use it as "evidence" you cannot do this, or you can take some mental notes and use the information to contribute to your long-term success. it's up to you. this is NOT a diet, so you can't ruin it with a lack of perfection. thank goodness! this IS a lifetime way of eating, so you can use your experiences to help you learn what does and does not work for you. and judging from your post, you may decide to make some different choices next time. the situation has only the meaning you give it. willie, there is probably not one person here who has not had some sort of eating incident that left them feeling physically crummy, discouraged, and yucky about themsevles. you're no different from the rest of us, you know. so what now? you pick yourself back up-the sooner the better- and you say to youself, "dang. that sucked! i think i'll do it differently next time." and you do it differently next time. quick tips: stay off the scale a few days - binges on low-carbing often make you retain a few pounds of water and will add to the overall discouragement. drink extra water right now, and eat clean. and don't give the whole thing any more thinking beyond the "what will i do differently next time?" ok? you're not here to be perfect. you're here to improve, just like all of us. and i think this can help you get where you want to go, if you decide to let it. peace out. |

| Ditto what everyone above has said; it ain't the cheese... it's the sugar-free candy! I cannot tolerate it AT ALL. Even just ONE piece sends me to the bathroom multiple times!!! My dear husband can eat a whole box and not suffer so much as a rumble, but not me. MOST people I know suffer dearly when they eat this stuff so I think my husband is in the minority on this. If you're going to indulge, do it with something safe and legal like fresh strawberries and home-made whipped cream.

| I think you can see the pattern, that this happens to all of us. We just need to get back on the horse and remember what Goddess said about this being a way of life. So if you are doing this for the rest of your life it puts one binge into perspective for you. I have been having alot of issues staying on track because my weight loss has seriously stalled. (Maybe because of the cheating!?) I am taking Goddess' words to heart and am TRYING to stop beating myself up. You should try it too! You can do it!!
