| Hii Everyone! My name is Genny and I'm 20 years old, senior nutrition major and culinary student in Ca. I am a newb to this board but definitely not to this woe! At my highest, 180, I had had enough and started the low carb wol. I got down to a mind-blowing 137 pounds, but at the time I had some very serious body issues and still thought I was fat (I am 5'6" by the way). Being that I felt that way, I gave up and went into a depression during which I ate anything I wanted. Because of this, my weight got back up to 179 (my body just LOVES being around 180). I have recently overcome my hardships with body image and have taken my life back. I now weigh 160 pounds, slowly but surely getting back down to my ultimate goal of about 130 or so. In eating low-carb for years of my life, I pretty much know the ins and outs of it all and know why I can get away with and what my body will not allow. As i continue on my journey I hope I am able to help others in this forum to reach their goals, as well. Thanks for listening to my rant!! <3 Gen ![]()

![]() |

Welcome, Genny. Funny how it sometimes takes longer for our thoughts to change than our bodies, huh? Hope you enjoy it here.

Yes yes, for sure! Thanks to everyone for their warm welcomes, you've made my day! What are your takes on sugar-free candy? I have a MAAAJOR sweet tooth and sometimes I figure that it is just purely better to have a bunch of sugar-free than it is to all out binge on the real deal. I KNOW it's not 'on the diet' but I still feel it's better. I also find it easier to get right back on track if I just satisfied that craving with the lesser of two evils than it is if I just totally blow it. Any other takes? <3 Gen

gen-well, i try to satisfy my sweet tooth with recipes and homemade goods whenever possible. the "low carb" sweets you can buy in the store are often are loaded with sugar alcohols, a MAJOR source of stalls for folks, not to mention some highly unpleasant gastrointestial side effects that sometimes go along with those. if you do decide to use 'em, i'd recommend restraint. in large part, this is a trial and error process in finding out what works for you and what causes you problems. but if you experience slowdowns and/or problems losing, that's the first place i'd look. peace out.

Haha yea, I know what you mean. They definitely get things going in the old intestinal tract. I was looking in the recipe section and saw that mock danish that looks pretty darn good that I will probably try! The only problem is that we don't have a microwave so I guess I'll have to figure it out in the oven or a pan or whatever... Yea, lame, I know. No nuker :-p

Haha... tell me about it. My boyfriend and I recently moved in together (in March) so we are lacking a few of those "great but not completely necessary" things, ya know, microwave, more than 4 pieces of silverware, extra towels, etc. It really only bothers me when I forget to take the chicken out in the morning before I go to work and it's still a frozen block when I go to make dinner in the evening... Today I've eaten: 3 eggs 2 oz cheddar cheese 1/4 c chicken salad - 1/4 c cubed chicken - 2 Tbsp mayo - sprinkle of chopped celery and onion I have a mini goal to be 158 by next monday My dad recently told me that he bought tickets for a cruise to the bahamas for he and my mom, my brother, myself, my boyfriend, and my grandpa for my 21st birthday (which is on June 12)!!! So I want to be somewhere around 150 by June 15th so that I'm able to enjoy being on the cruise rather than feeling bad about myself the whole time. I know it's cliche, but it's not like I'm just 'dieting' for that one event.. I was in the process of it and just decided to pump it up a bit with a little extra motivation!!!

if the goal makes it easier for you, then that's great. just make sure you don't judge yourself harshly if it doesn't progress as you'd like. your menu doesn't look too bad, but make sure you get your veggies in there! very important.

goddess, In your book you talk about some kind of bran crackers that are huge. Do you make these or buy them? If you make, I have the 500 recipe book of yours as well (taco seasoning pretty good by the way) or if you buy them where? Name? etc.

Hi, Lynn. I'm sorry, but I think you have me confused with someone else. Dana Carpeter, maybe? 'Cause I don't have a book out. Yet, anyway. Maybe someone else knows about the crackers you're asking about...
