Personally, I have found low calorie diets (such as Kimkins) to be too calorie restrictive for weight loss. When I consume too few calories (less than 1200 per day), my metabolism retaliates when I eat "normally" again, and I find that losing weight consistantly is nearly impossible.

Choosing a low-carb way of life -- and it truly is a way of life -- has helped me not only to lose weight but, more importantly, maintain weight loss.

And that's really the ultimate goal, right?

Welcome to LCE. You'll find great support here. What plan are you choosing to follow?

thinnythighs - welcome! I don't think that "only" having 45 pounds to lose will cause you to stall. That often happens with the last 10 or 15 pounds.

Welcome, thinny.

I started out at nearly 170 lbs. (5' almost 2"). By the end of 2 years, I was in the 110-115 range, where I have remained since. Although I didn't have a goal weight in mind, other than to "maybe lose 20 lbs", at some point I was 45 pounds from what turned out to be my normalized weight. I just adopted the principles of low carbing (as are set forth in the Atkins Nutritional Approach) and practiced them, through the inevitable ups, downs and stalls that will occur.

If you want to, you can do it too, and we'll be here to encourage you along.

Which low carb plan are you following?
