Hi, I'm new to the low carb lifestyle but loving it. I'm really enjoying collecting recipes and seeing how creative I can get! I get bored easily

I'm currently following Kimkins. I found a reference to one-minute muffins and in googling it, brought me here. This looked like such a great place, I joined!

Welcome, Steph.

You'll find much support for low carbing as a long term life style here.

It is not our mission to support VLCD's (Very low calorie diets), including crash diets such as kimkins, here because of the metabolic havoc and critical muscle wasting they generally create. You'll likely be encouraged to adopt one of the moderate low carb programs, all of which have been supported by lots of good research.

Hope you'll make yourself at home here.

Thanks for the hearty welcome!!

I will want to gradually transition to a slightly less radical plan for sure, probably once I drop my first 25. I have a big doll show in Las Vegas coming up and I seriously need to be lighter for that. I found out I'm going to be on TV and in a magazine and you know what those cameras do

If there is anyone here with personal experience transitioning off Kimkins or Stillman's induction, into something that is effective for continued losses (I have 65 to lose) I would love to hear from you!

I've already found out what a wealth of information is here. It's great.

Steph, welcome! I would HIGHLY recommend you read Atkins, New Diet Revolution or Protein Power or Jonny Bowden's Living the Lowcarb Life. These are ALL excellent references. These books will help you transition to a healthier lifestyle.

When, where will you be on TV?

Steph-Welcome. We're glad you joined us.

I'll echo Maggie and Barb's comments: I'd suggest you keep learning, and researching your options to find a plan that you can comfortably live with for long-term weight management.

I understand the drive for quick results-I was one of the WORST about wanting it all to happen yesterday myself, man. But I know that, at least for me, moving out of the "diet" headspace that's about deprivation and control and moving into the "lifestyle" headspace that's about consistently making healthy choices made ALL the difference for me in being able to lose and keep off weight. I'd lost weight by simply not eating before. It's not like that's hard. Starvation always worked for me....for a minute. It's just not sustainable in the long term.

So just you be careful out there, ok? And whatever plan you're following, do pay close attention to your physical condition. Stay safe!

glad to have you with us.

Thanks all who have replied.

I found that straight Atkins didn't work very well for me, as I gained about 6 lbs. and my cholesterol went thru the roof. That was a lot of years ago, however. I had a feeling low carb was still the way to go since I have friends who successfully keep their weight down by eating that way. I need to check out Stillman's I guess or read up on other low carb options. I truly don't know much about anything at this point except Atkins and Kimkins.

I hit a major stall with KK, and was truly thinking it was not going to work for me at all. But actually upped my carbs and calories a wee bit and whooshed a 2 lb loss yesterday--thank goodness. I'm still undecided as to whether I'll stay strictly with that WOE or try to find something slightly less restrictive.

My big thing at the moment is, I have a wonderful organic garden in full production right now, and I'll be darned if I'm not going to enjoy some of it!

The TV film crew never showed at the Las Vegas dollshow I was at last weekend. Oh well.....just as well, LOL. I wasn't quite ready for that anyhow.

steph-i hope you do enjoy your garden! that sounds great (and it sure sounds good for ya, too). and veggies are definitely a staple of a low carb lifestyle.

if you're wanting to compare various lc plans, i understand johhny bowden's book, "living the low carb life" may be helpful in that regard. sometimes it can take a while to find your groove, i know.

by the way, if you do decide to work with one of the better-known lc plans and have difficulty, the people in this forum are also very good at spotting potential trouble areas and can, quite possibly, help. so that's something to be aware of.

too bad about the tv appearance; perhaps next time.

Steph, if you read an old Atkins book, you should read the newer version. It's been updated and allows LOTS of veggies and uses NET carbs. That's where you subtract the fiber from veggies and fruits. Atkins is no longer just cheese, meat and eggs.
