Well, it's official. I started induction Monday morning. So far, so good> I have been reading alot here, so I'm doing pure induction, not just induction level carbs. Anyone else starting all over again? Maybe we can support one another and go the distance.

Hi...I would like to join you. I would, no I need to do Adkins again. If your interested in an Induction Partner...perhaps, we could help each other along. I started Adkins Induction - August 7th, 2005 I weighed in at 187 lbs. 5'9" and 40 yrs. old. By April 30th, 2006 I weighed in at 161 lbs. 26 lbs...I was so close my goal was 155 lbs. I felt so good...inside and out. Unfortunately, in April I was moved into a different division at work...this put me in constant contact with food. Gourmet food...GM of a Banquet Center. It was all down hill from there. I have put 17 lbs. back on and I fear I will gain all of it back and more. I've tried to go back on Induction several times. I just do not seem to have the clarity I had the first time around. Physically I don't feel as well and mentally I'm just depressed. I thought perhaps if I could do this with someone who is in the same place as I am...somehow it would be...easier. I guess I'm just so disappointed in myself for coming so far only to be back here again. Hope your game! Donna

| Donna, You will make it! I know what you mean about having to start induction again and again, it can be hard to maintain the momentum of doing it. But, you are in the right place, with lots of encouragement! So hope to see you in the induction challenge! I have to get myself back there as well. Day 2 of induction but I have to say I feel great!

Thanks for the words of incouragement Mab! I can't understand why I am having such a hard time. I don't remember it being this hard the first time. Years ago ( about 15 yrs ) I lost 30 lbs. in a month. A friend told me about phentermine and I got a prescription. I had willpower then too, I guess because I didn't eat anything but a piece of toast all day and exercized day and night. I kept the weight off for about a year or two. When I started to put it back on I thought I could just do it again. It did not work and has not worked since. ( I tried is about four or five times since ) Actually, it has such a horrible effect I can't stand to do it again. I'm wondering it Adkins or any diet for that matter is kinda like that? I mean does it work the first time and then not again? Perhaps it's my circumstances this time. What keeps you motivated? Do you stock up on all the right foods to keep on hand to make sure you don't slip up? Is there a snack you recommend I can keep on hand when I am not home? I'm not having any success and I'm actually watching the scale climb pound by pound....talk about depressing. Are you exercising too?

Welcome, Donna! I'm on my 3rd round with Atkins, the first time was fast, but I was younger, and following the original plan, that was stricter. Had to go off for financial reasons. The second time was a bit slower, and then life got in the way, and I just didn't have motivation. This time I've stuck with it for over 5 years, and the losses are painfully slow, but I'm older, and with age your metabolism slows down. I have long stalls, and then suddenly I start losing. Every one of us is different, and respond differently to any eating plan. Yes, stock up on what foods are on your plan, stay away from "convenience" low carb foods, they usually will sabotage your efforts. Try to eat as close to natural as you can. Snacks? String cheese, pepperoni, a few raw veggies, like peppers, celery, broccoli, with ranch dressing for a dip. Check out the one minute muffin in the Low Carb Cooking section. It's good hot or cold. And drink water, make sure you get enough. And keep coming back here for support. Start a journal, so more of us can visit you, and give you tips on the things that help us. Losing weight doing low carb, whether it's Atkins, South Beach, Protein Power, or whatever, is not supposed to be fast, but steady and permanent. It's a way of eating that you will probably need to follow the rest of your life in order to keep off the weight. But it's nice that low carb has such variety that it's hard to get bored with it. Choose your plan, read the book, and then keep the book handy for reference. You'll find that you keep going back to it.

Hmmm, pure induction? Don't know. I always thought induction was induction, eating 20 gms or fewer of carbs per day. And those carbs being from induction-legal veggies and cheese and cream. Now, if you go to the original Atkins plan from 1972, you start at Level 1, and have basically zero carbs, except for 2 small salads per day, if you wish. The next week you add 5 carbs each day, perhaps cottage cheese or more veggies. Then the following week you add another 5 per day, gradually adding in carbs until you stop losing, and then you drop back to the previous level. Some people stayed at nearly zero carb for months and still lost slowly, others were able to move through the levels quickly, and still lose. I'm leaning toward the original plan again, just because I'm tired of stalls that last for months. Since that's how I lost the best the first time I did low carb, I really think that's the route I need to take.

Hey guys,dance2 Im doing it again too. Im 29 and 5'11 and did atkins back in 2003. I lost about 30 lbs and it seemed like it came off pretty quickly then and not so quickly now. I feel great so im not discouraged. I was feeling very sluggish in the afternoons and having weird sweats at night so i went to the Dr. They said everything in my blood looked fine - see an endocrinologist - so i did. She said everything looked fine - i must have sleep apnea. Well.....I just felt that she was a bit of a quack. About a week later (4 weeks ago) i started back on atkins and have not woken up 1 night sweaty or had any bouts of afternoon fatigue. I was really amazed that neither my doctor nor the endocrinologist asked me what my diet was like. Anywho - back at it again. Ive lost 6 lbs so far - a little less than i was hoping but its a loss. My mom and I are doing a 'low carb' thing together so it really works out well. Anyway, glad to have a little support network of my own and people to talk to and learn from! ![]()

Welcome, Nicole. The 2nd time is slower, the 3rd time even more so, but the health benefits are always there, even without the fast losses. It's worth it to stick to low carb, even if we don't lose the way we want to. I wish you and your mom much success on your low carb journey.
