Unhappy Feeling Im wasting my time... Please Help

Im 5'1.5 and Im 156lbs. All I am trying to do is lose 6.5% body fat to be let in to the military. Im jogging and lifting I want to leave in january.

I have no one to guide me. My family is against me joining so Im trying to stick to this diet and thier just like you dont need to lose it and harass me with food I find gross now.

I have never done Atkins before, And I really cant go out to buy the atkins book.... I Am looking for some one who wants a new buddy through email.....
I have been eating chicken and meats with no carbs for about a week and a half and no results yet... and Im getting a little sick of plain chicken

If anyone has any meal or "snack" Ideas with low low carbs...
Do share Please

So does anyone want to be "battle buddy?"

Hi there! Welcome to LCE.

Wow, you've got a lot to address in your post, so let's see...

First - Get the book. Some way, some how. Do you have a local library? Even if it's an older version (even Atkins first version) would be better than "flying blind." You need to read and get yourself informed on how to do this woe (way of eating) healthfully. It's not all meat, no carbs.... this concerns me greatly. You need to eat some vegetable carbs and fat! And Dr. Atkins explains it beautifully in his book. There's no reason to be eating plain chicken! Another great book to read is Protein Power. Most libraries have copies of both.

Second - Can you post a typical day's menu? I am concerned that you're only eating meat... could you list your menu here so some of us can give you some tips?

Third - What are you drinking? Water, water, water is the way to go. Many believe that half you're body weight in ounces is what you should consume each day, so you should be drinking about 78 oz. of water ~ 10 cups daily. Simply stated, water helps your liver function properly and your liver helps eliminate fat, so make it work for you!

Fourth - Did you take any measurements? Because you're working out so hard, you may not see the scale move, but you may be losing inches. If you haven't, do it now, and check back every month on how you're progressing.

Fifth - For support, why don't you join one of the challenges in the Challenge Forum? I'm running a Holiday Challenge right now, and there is also an Induction Challenge going on. You might find the support you need right there! Just jump right in.

Finally, check out the cooking thread and recipe section here, and here is another site that has some fantastic recipes! There is absolutely no reason that this woe has to be bland or boring, even on induction.

I hope I've helped you some.... please post more questions as they come up. And please post a menu so we can help you get started on the right track while you're reading up on this woe.

Hi Army and welcome Wow, you've got a lot to deal with right now, but rest assured many folks here have had opposition from friends and family and have had the last laugh.

I agree with all Mada's recommendations. You do need veggies and fats. Water helps. Do measure. Since you're working out, I wouldn't be surprised if you are losing fat as you gain muscle, which is why the scale doesn't appear to move.

Until you can finagle a copy of one of the Atkins books, or another lower carb plan such as Protein Power by the Drs. Eades, here's a link to the official Atkins web site to get you off on the right foot. Just ignore the commercial sales pitches
http://www.atkins.com/articles/nutritional-approach

Snacks? Here's a start: http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/whattoeat/a/snacks.htm

Once you know you understand the plan you've chosen, I bet your dedication to getting fit will pay off in spades.

Hello, Lise, and welcome to LowCarbEating. Glad to have you with us.

A few comments on your approach:

Eating _no_ carbs is NOT following Atkins, and it's NOT reccomended. Your body needs healthy carbs in the form of veggies, and actually, it will most likely be harder for you to lose weight with this approach than with a healthy, balanced diet. Veggies, especially those rich in fiber, are a mainstay of any healthy, sustainable low carb plan. You'll also feel much better, find it's easier to lose and keep off weight, and end up with more energy than you'll have from a crash-diet approach where you try to eliminate all carbs. The all-or-nothing crash diet mentality that many folks maintain for years isn't very effective for permanent weight loss.In fact, the sooner you switch your thinking from "short-term diet" to "new way of eating," the better off you'll be. Addressed in this way, low carb can become just the way you eat, and provide your weight control for life.

I strongly suggest you scrape up the $6 it takes to get your own copy of the Atkins book if you want to "do Atkins." If you get a used copy from Amazon, you might be able to get it for even less than that. In the meantime, though, please go to the Atkins website and read up on the plan. That doesn't cost anything and is a great first step.

And as far as support buddies, you have a whole host of them right here! By posting in the forums, you get the collective wisdom and experience of the entire community without having to rely on any single individual.

You are on the right track by including physical activity in your plan, and may actually need more carbs in the long run, depending on how much physical activity you're participating in. But please, start eating some veggies, ok?

Spend some time here reading and seeing what folks are talking about. This is a very helpful community, and you'll learn lots that will contribute to your long-term success if you apply the wisdom you find here. The folks are great around here!

Peace out and good luck to you, hon.

Hey Lise - where'd ya go? I hope we didn't scare you off! This is a very supportive forum and a great place to hang out to learn about the LC woe. We are all very supportive and concerned about all of our members - even the brand new ones! Which is why we were all encouraging you to get the book.

Sounds like you have a lot on your plate to deal with right now. Hope you come back!

NO NO Im here! well today I ate a cheddar omelet for lunch (to be honest Im sick at the moment so I slept in.)

for dinner I'll have a cube steak and some green beans and sauerkraut (sounds sick but I have been craving sauerkraut!)
snack I just made sugar free jell-O and I have some carb friendly whipped cream.
I usually have a little more of an appetite but I just feel blah

To be honest I kind of just eat when I want I rarely eat an actual meal cause my family is so "unorganized" I eat little things throughout the day (good because it burns off easier especially that Im working out)

I feel gross now cause I haven’t worked out in 2 days cause im sick and cant breath out my nose (no running cadence for me) blah

I like you guys already!

my grandma gave me this squash I think she calls it pink banana squash does anyone know the carbs in it???
these websites are so different from each other its driving me MAD!

Lise, Banana squash has 6 carbs per 1/2 cup serving. Here is a link to a web site that I use to check the carb count on foods:
http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

This site did not have a separate listing for banana squash. When I can't find a food on this site, I just do a "google" search for the food + the phrase "carb count". That is what I did, so my search term was "banana squash carb count". That produced a site that contained the information I posted above.

Sorry to hear you're feeling poorly, but glad to see you back. And glad to see you eating some veggies, too!
