Default Low Carb Magazines

My husband and I are new to the Atkin's diet. We decided today to stop eating sugar and white flour which means most of the food in our pantry has to go--not to mention many of our favorite cooking methods and foods. I've ordered Dr. Atkin's book as well as a recipe book but I wonder if there's a magazine for low carb eating. I have a subscription to Taste of Home but obviously that will have to go as well. I found a few on-line magazines but would really prefer an old fashioned, shiny covered, monthly paper magazine.

There have been some LC mags come and go, but I don't know the current state of LC Mags, so I'm afraid I can't help you out there.

Do spend some time in the cooking forum here, though, for lots of good ideas for adapting your cooking methods for LC. And glad to hear you've ordered the book.

Oh- Welcome to LCE!

Welcome, Gina. I am not aware of any low carb cooking magazines. However, there are lots of low carb cookbooks available with good information and recipes. One that I found particularly helpful when I was starting out was Dana Carpender's 500 Low Carb Recipes Cookbook. Besides some great recipes and tips on l/c cooking methods, it also contains helpful information on the kinds of ingredients needed for a low carb kitchen.

George Stella has some good ideas, both in his cookbooks and on his website. There are a lot of good recipes right here, too. And there are many, many websites devoted to low carb cooking.

Keep your magazines. You're bound to find some recipes you can adapt. Some of my best lc recipes are adaptations of higher carb ones.

Thanks for all the resources! I can't believe no one has jumped on the idea of a low carb magazine....hmmmm, maybe it'll be something to look into creating.

There have been a few that have come and gone; as I understand from my pals in the publishing industry, this is a particularly volatile time for print media in general. LC's "mainstream" popularity has waxed and waned over the last several years as well. So that's probably why you're not seeing a lot of them.
