| Hi I fell off the low carb diet and currently want to get back on the low carb lifestyle. However, I have a concern regarding my sport. I am started training karate and classes usually are 1 hour and 30 minutes long and requires a lot of explosive muscular contractions. There are lots of jumping plyometric drills, sparring, punching and kicking requires quite a bit of explosive muscle contractions. I was wondering does anyone have any martial arts experience and also follow the low carb eating lifestyle? And how has your experience been with energy levels in training and recovery from training in your martial art and also your performance in competition / tournaments. Can I do martial arts on a low carb diet? |

| I have not seen anyone specifically reference martial arts on this, or any other BB that I visit. I have seen some discussion of l/c and bodybuilding, but not martial arts training. However, my impression is that martial arts training can be viewed simply as one form of a strenuous exercise program and exercise is an important part of a l/c lifestyle. As Dr. Atkins said "Exercise is non-negotible." In that regard, I do not believe there would be anything intrinsically wrong with doing l/c and with martial arts training. I suspect it would be a good way to exercise. Good luck.
