Default Little results

Hi, I'm having another go at this low carb thing. I did it once about 4 years ago after having my first child, lost 20kgs with the Ultralite diet. I have since had another child and ended up at the same place I was at before! Nothing I do in pregnancy seems to prevent me from gaining. But I've now been on it for about a month, I haven't cheated, I'm doing it the same way I did before, but apart from an initial 3-4kg loss I seem to be stalled. I'm also breastfeeding a 14 month old. I do feel better in myself, the reason I like low carb so much is that it takes all my binge eating issues away, I've been bulimic on and off for 10 years too, but never considered it to be full on bulimia because it's sporadic and I've gone years without it rearing it's head, but I'm ok right now.
I"m not exercising that much apart from incidental exercise from housework and lugging a child around a lot of the time. I get pretty tired by the end of the day, and the days are long.

But why aren't I losing any more?? Last time I dropped really fast and regularly. I'm in Ketosis, I do know that much, I'm not very hungry and I have ketostix to prove it. Any clues??

Em

Welcome, Em.

I'm not familiar with the "Ultralite" diet. Can you tell us a bit about it?

Patience, child. You don't say how long you've been back on low carb, but your initial loss is good. As long as you're nursing, and have the stress of taking care of 2 little ones, it's possible that your losses will be slower. (Stress does that to us.) For me, just being older has made this go-round painfully slow. However, I have had much improvement in my overall health, which is a great bonus. So, I ignore the slow losses and focus on how much better I feel in general.

I looked up the UltraLite diet, and the explanation is that it's 60% complex carbs. That could be the problem. Most of us here eat a lot fewer carbs than that, per Atkins, Protein Power, the Zone, etc. I personally try to keep mine between 20 and 30 grams per day, net carbs. You might try doing some research on other plans if your particular plan seems to have stopped working. Or, just give it some time, and see if you get results later. Often your body stops losing to give it time to adjust, and then you'll start seeing losses again.

Welcome to LCE. I hope you find the info here helpful to you.

THanks for the replies, the Ultralite diet I did through a naturopath last time, this time I have actually just made up my own diet, through remembering vaguely what I did last time and reading a lot of low carb websites. I was on 25 or so carbs a day for 3 weeks but have brought it to below 20. Thinking about it last night I do vaguely remember stopping the loss for a few weeks and then dropping 2-3 kg in a rush so it always evened out to about a kilo a week but not this early in the diet.
I guess I need to be patient like you said. I'm craving a bowl of homemade mueslie! But I will resist the urge to give up and go back to the food cycle of failure I was in before.

Oh and I just read your sticky Maggie about water, I'm drinking about 2 and a half litres (half a gallonish) but a whole gallon?! Guess I'll aim higher.
