Default Improved Insulin Response?

Maggie ( and other diabetics out there),

Have you noticed an improvement in your insulin response since achieving your weight loss goals? Are you able to eat more carbs without wrecking your BG control? Just wondering if the body heals as you lose and if it gets easier to incorporate more carbs without bad consequences.

Sorry I missed this when you first put it up. (I've had a very busy time at work. :( )

The short answer is "no". Certainly not for me.

Indeed, I don't know of any sound evidence that one can "heal" a T2 diabetic metabolism. T2D is pretty much a continuum. It does seem clear that you can eat for the metabolism you have and you can stop the progression of diabetes from the point at which you finally address it.

I follow a very low carb life style to keep my BGL's in line. I think there are people who can include more carbs and others who need to be even more restrictive. Your BGL's and A1c's will let you know if you're doing it right for your own metabolism.

HTH.

Thanks for the response, Maggie. I was under the impression that I might be able to get off meds if I got my weight under control. I guess that's not the same as getting rid of the diabetes altogether. I do have a strong family history but was hoping that my disease was caused by being over 100 lbs. overweight and that losing the weight would "cure" me. I know that this WOE is definitely helping. I had labs recently and the results spoke for themselves. (I'll post in the success stories about that.) Any other insight you can share would be great! Thanks, again!
