Default is fatigue common in first few weeks?

I tire very easily these last couple of weeks since I started low-carb. My activity level is the same: 5 hours of taekwondo a week, walking the dog, going to school full-time, and being a wife and mom. Of course it could be a variety of other things -- my youngest is feverish today and a couple of classmates are under the weather, a long-time family friend died a week ago...my oldest went to Florida for a week...so there are other happenings that could contribute, but I just feel bone tired.

it's usual to feel tired usually in the first week, particularly if you've been eating a lot of carbs prior. the second week, not so much.

you are undre a lot of stress, and sounds like you are very active, both of which could very easily be contributing. if you haven't upped your carb level yet past the induction phase of your plan, i'd recommend it. people that are more active sometimes feel flat at early plan level carbs.

make sure you are taking vitiamins and getting plenty of rest, hon. do whatever you can to relax...i know that's easier to say than to do, but you've got your hands full.

sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.

Sounds like you need a little TLC for yourself....take care of yourself.. maybe the dog can take shorted walks or a week or two... just till you get more energy...this passes fast, the first two weeks is the toughest... then you just get it all under control and you find more energy than you have had in quite a while... Thanks for the replies everyone and the condolences, Goddess. I reread my post and had to laugh when I saw how much I am regularly doing and still wondered if the additional stressors could be causing the fatigue. I started feeling a little more energetic last night and so far so good. Not following any particular plan I have been just winging it and probably tried to cut too many carbs too fast. I am still doing a lot of reading and am looking at the Atkins 4th (maintenance) phase but they recommend lean meat and other low saturated fat foods and in all my reading I am sure that sat. fat is what I don't want to avoid.

Well, the point of being informed is deciding what's best for you and the education, along with experimentation, is how you learn what works for your individually. It is an individual process.

And yes, your schedule looks like it could knock out a horse. The surprise isn't that you're tired, it's that you're functioning, hon. LOL.

When i first started to low carb several years ago now I was exhausted for 3 months. I almost gave up, then some helpful kind soul on another forum suggested i give up all franken foods. It worked like a charm. I also lowered my carb count to under 30 and I guess ketosis kicked in because I haven't had a problem since. Only a suggestion but it could be you are eating something that your body is reacting to?Maybe not enough water? Are you taking your supplements. I know it sucks to be tired all the time, for awhile i could barely un wrap myself from the couch. Judy
