Default Weakness and carb splurge

I was wondering if this is common and if anyone else would know why this happened.

I had a little incident this weekend where I got really weak and almost passed out. I worked out pretty hard that morning and ran on an OMM and a salad most of the day. I was so weak and the first thing hubby did was get me a glass of juice and insist I drink it all. I did and felt much better shortly after.

When I realised I must have had 200 carbs in that glass of blueberry pomegranate juice I almost cried. I didn't even bother to check that night to see if I was still in ketosis because I knew I had overdone it. I did out of pure curiosity check the next morning and I was back in the pink.

I'm really not sure what to think about any of it. Do I need to up my daily carbs? Or only when working out really heavy??

Any advice would be appreciated
Hppy

My suggestion to you is to eat regularly!!! At least the juice didn't kill your ketosis . . . and you're back on track, right?? But don't let yourself starve like that. When you do, your body stops burning the fat. How did today go?

Naomi, What plan are you following? Your reaction is not normal. You should probably talk to your doctor about it to rule out things such as hypoglycemia. As a general rule, if you are following a heavy exercise regime, you can have more carbs. However, you should not starve yourself. A salad and a OMM are not enough to go all day. You need to eat to lose weight. Let us know what you find out.

oops forgot to mention I do drink a small glass of juice before a workout to give me enough carbs to get through it. I tried so many things and the juice was the only thing that let me get it all done without weakness. That was at 5:00 at8 I ate the OMM and at noon I ate the salad. the salad had turkey, cheese, black olives, an egg. I got weak at about 3:00 I didn't feel like I was starving at all I find the muffin filling and my salad seems huge.

Connie, I am in total ketosis. Small levels. I drink alot of water so small to trace is normal for me. I feel better today but worry it could happen when I am alone and there is nobody there it pick me up off the floor. What a mess that would be lol.

Henry,
None of the plans really worked as they were set so I played with them until I started losing weight. Atkins didn't let me get through my workouts and I was weak before I finished the warm up. I tried South Beach and never lost weight.

I am at the moment trying to have 40-50 carbs a day with 90 one day a week. I am now eating 1500 cals a day as well. I am losing weight well now and hate to mess up the progress. But this scares me.

I will see my Doc and let you know what he says. I would hate it if he makes me get off low carb. I am doing so well and I'm never hungry.

Thanks guys

Naomi, it may be helpful to think of this WOE as a "controlled carb" lifestyle, rather than as a low carb lifestyle. Each person's threshold for the amount of carbs they need is different. Dr. Atkins recognized this. It may well be that because of your lifestyle and individual makeup, you can consume more carbs than others and still lose weight. Under Atkins, the concept is to find the right level for you, whether that is 30 grams of carb or 230 grams per day. That is why I like to refer to my WOE as a "controlled carb lifestyle". It also avoids the built-in predjuice uninformed people have concerning what this WOE is all about.

I have sooooo much still to learn!

Went to the Doc this morning, waiting for those results of blood work. He did say hypoglycemia is a definite candidate. I also have Lupus and was concerned it could be a factor. (thats why I wanted to know if anyone else goes through this)...but Doc doesn't think so. He wants me to up my carbs on workout days to at the very least 90 and my calories for now too to 1800 and see what happens. I will do as told like a good little girl and we shall see...

My last blood work for my lupus came back great! Doc even told me to keep doing whatever I was doing. I am off all meds and really want to get healthy in a more natural way.
It's alot of work but heck...I worked equally as hard messing myself up soooo...

when you mentioned the lightheadness and weakness, the first thing i wondered was about hypoglycemia. i'm very glad you went to your doc to sort it out. that was the right thing to do! and if that's an issue, regular eating is very important to keep your blood sugars stable, especially if you're exercising heavily. you may also want to make sure you're getting enough protien to address your needs in those circumstances. and please, don't stress about drinking some juice. taking care of your immediate phyical needs is way more important than the reading on your ketostix.
