| I was just reading through the madness that I have decided to put m'self into in the interest of good health, and better living through better eating, and noticed that much of what I am looking as suggests decaf coffee or tea in the morning. I have been having coffee as a steady part of my mornings for nearly 15 years...and given that i am 28 is saying quite a bit. I'm a bit stressed out about how my mornings will go without my cup of the blackest thickest festering cup of whatever I am calling regular coffee....Any thoughts about how to survive decafination on top of nuking my carb intake for a few weeks? Thanks and be well. C |

| Welcome, C. Which low carb program are you following?

| Welcome, C. Some people don't ever give up caffeine and do quite well; others cut back or cut it out entirely, and do ok, also. It's up to the individual to determine if caffeine is detrimental to their weight loss, or overall health, and whether they need or want to cut it out. I cut way back on my caffeine, and although it didn't help with weight loss, it did help with just feeling better overall. Wish you much success!

| Just started South Beach. The nice thing is that now that I have 86'd soda entirely, my caffeine intake has dropped considerably. Though this morning was a bit chilly, and I needed something to wake me up and get me moving so the joe was flowing pretty steady right up until 11:30. Usually after that i'm pounding soft drinks until about 5:30. So I've been doing better, I just want to make sure that I don't mess anything up by continuing to drink my weight in coffee. Thanks for the support! C |

| I didn't even think about giving up my coffee when I started this plan a couple of months ago. There was no way I was going to go through carb detox and caffeine detox at the same time! I really look forward to my one "really strong" cup of coffee per day, and the tbsp of heavy cream I use in it doesn't hurt either. It is a treat that I honor myself with every morning and it hasn't affected my weightloss. |

| Caffine affects people differently. If it does not trigger sweet cravings, and it does not otherwise adversly affect you, there is no reason to discontinue enjoying a caffinated beverage. I have continued drinking at least a gallon of splenda sweetened diet cola a day throughout my 5 years following the Atkins WOE.

| Henry, thanks for adding "and it does not otherwise adversely affect you". My son stopped caffeine due to high blood pressure. It helped him tremendously. It was at his doctor's suggestion. I don't think that caffeine had anything to do with my weight loss plateau. When I went completely off caffeine, it made no difference whatever, so now I have the occasional cup of regular coffee, or the rare regular diet cola or Mt. Dew, or Diet Big Red, without ill effects. I just watch my caffeine intake so as to not affect my sleep.

| Nita, there is no doubt that caffine affects people differently. I can and do drink diet cola late at night and go right to sleep. In addition I can and have gone without it for days without any withdrawal symptoms too. In contrast, My wife cannot have any caffine after 2:00 pm, or she will not be able to get to sleep. If I found a caffine free diet cola that I liked the taste of, I would drink it but I have not found one yet. However, I also do drink caffine free flavored soda for a change of pace. (As I am typing this I am sipping my afternoon 64oz diet cola. lol)

| I have been on the coffee still throughout my first 5 days of my woe. I know I get the Caffeine Detox really bad from previous experience and the headache is borderline unbearable. So I stuck with it. If I go too long without eating something and just drinking coffee, a few things happen, one my stomach starts to gurgle like its really hungry. That can be fixed with a slice of cheese or even a bottle of water, and the other thing that happens is I really have to use the restroom often. So I think I can continue to drink my coffee and still manage my cravings for other foods. Besides...Its october...in wisconsin....like i'm going to go without a hot cup of coffee to wrap my hands around in the morning when winter hits? Be Well be Uber C

| I am a huge fan of Crystal Light and similar products. I've cut back on sodas quite a bit by using the Crystal Light (or store brand) flavor packets in bottled water. As for giving up coffee....... that "ain't" going to happen. |

| I picked up some Crystal Light Packets when I knew I would be starting this. They have helped quite a bit. I can honestly say I have only had one soda since Monday of last week (Sept 29th). And that was last night when I found a diet caffeine free Pepsi, and realized there were no carbs, and no sugars. SWEET! But I do like the fact that I can lay off the soda during the week. I was almost to the point of having an IV of Coke and Mt. Dew started during work. gallons? HA! I'd put a crazy straw in a 55 gallon drum and go to town. So yes, I have had no problems staying with the caffeine/coffee. ![]() Be Well, Be Merry, Be Four....BINGO! C

| I had to change my diet cola as the brand I was using changed their formulation to use aspartame. However, one of my grocery stores carries diet Shasta products. They now special order 6 cases of diet cola a week for me. I wish they could get it in 2 liter bottles, but their warehouse does not stock it, so I make do with the cans. I just did the math. the 6 cases of 12 oz cans equals 13 and 1/2 gallons a week.
