tx lady- are you convinced it's connected to your eating, or could you have a bug? it's unusal to be having adjustment issues that far along. and if you do find that you feel better eating at a higher carb level than you have been, by all means do that. everyone's needs are individual.

Can anyone recommend a place to buy stevia or xylitol? I spoke with my physician and he believes I might not metabolize the Splenda product well and stated I might choose an alternative sweetner. I have seen stevia and xylitol mentioned in several recipes on this site. I have no clue if it is available at the supermarket, Central Market(HEB) or Whole Foods Market. Thanks so much....

Karen, I have bought stevia liquid in a speciality section at a supermarket here in Kansas City. I have also purchased granular stevia at a health food store in San Antonio. As for xylitol, you can find it on line. Here is a link to one site:

My doctor is not a fan of any of the artificial sweeteners with the exception of Stevia and xylitol.

If your local health food store does not carry it, it never hurts to request it. Same goes for your local grocery store.

Rae, welcome. If your strips show ketosis, then you're in Ketosis. It's very much an either/or thing, and some people lose fine without showing on the strips. so never sweat that part.

txLady, it's unusual to still be expeiencing adjustment issues 3 weeks in. if you feel better with increased carb levels without the other issues, then i'd encourage you to continue that. people who are active also sometimes do better at higher carb levels. as maggie said, it's very much an individual thing. also make sure you're taking a good multivitamin.

if you continue to have issue, i'd also encourage you to consider posting a couple of day's menus to see if anybody can help you spot an area of concern. normally, the crummy patch we often call induction flu does NOT last over a week, so if you're into week three of feeling under the weather, then you need to continue investigating because that's not typical.

if you can't find it locally, you can also order them online at netrition.

Hey Guys!

Henry. thanks so much for the tips on how to find Stevia. I did find it at a local health food store. I am feeling great since I switched from Splenda to Stevia. No more stomach problems or headaches. I can do Splenda in very small amounts but not daily. I just hit my first 10 lb loss!!!! I am feeling so much better now. Was worried I could not do LCE and was getting very disappointed. I am really pumped now, just need to get into the gym more often for the cherry on the cake(20 more lbs to lose).
Goddess, I made sure I stocked up on my vitamins also...... Have to keep them by my toothbrush to remind me to take them. Oh well, whatever it takes I guess.

Thanks again,
Karen

glad you figured it out, karen. some people are sensitive to one kind of sweetener or another; takes trial and error to figure it out.

congrats on the 10 pounds down! that's fabulous.

and you're totally on target there - whatever works for you.

Karen, is it all Splenda, or just the powdered? I never had issues with it, but I switched to Sweetzfree instead of the bulk just to save a lot of carbs. It might be the filler in the powdered stuff that was affecting your, or it could be the Splenda itself. I'm glad you finally solved the mystery! Eating low carb just naturally makes you feel so much better, and it usually happens quickly, too!

Flower Hanging in there!!

QueenMamma,

I have used the liquid Splenda in my coffee in the past with no problem so you may be right about the fillers in the powdered Splenda. The flavored syrups with Splenda have never bothered me. When I started cooking with the powdered form troubled started fast.... As I started LCE my usage of Splenda increased dramatically. Just glad I figured it out as I love LCE and feel so much better. It is an easy way of life to eat and to me the weight loss is such a plus.

Ciao
Karen
