Welcome.
What plan are you following?
If it is Atkins and you are starting with induction those headaches may be from your system getting the caffeine out and shifting away from carbs as the primary source of energy. How long depends on you. We all react differently. For me it only lasted 3-5 days. Drink lots of water and keep active. That will distract you and your body. Before you know it, you are well on your way.

Karen. It sounds like you are having a bit of "Induction Flu". It will pass. How long it takes is different for each person, usually not more than a few days. It is just part of the detox process. One thing I would suggest, other than drinking lots of water, like Tom suggested, is that you should not view Atkins as a "diet". The term diet implies something that you start and stop. When I started Atkins, I knew that if it worked for me, I would have to follow it for the rest of my life because if I stopped following a low/controlled carb lifestyle, the weight I lost would simply return. Adopting a long range outlook, rather than treating it as a diet, has helped me continue on plan. Good luck on your weight loss journey.

Thanks for the advice and I will look forward to this phase passing soon. My appetite has gone way down since I started Atkins a week ago. Not eating as often as I should be. I am going to try to do better on that today. Again, thanks....

Welcome, Karen. Like the other folks said, this phase only lasts a few days for most folks, and you usually feel great afterwards, so hang in there!

Glad to have you with us!

Default Still hanging n there!!

Thanks for info. I am at two weeks as of yesterday and have lost 7lbs with 23lbs to go. I think I have figured out why I have felt so awful the last couple of weeks. I increased my carbs slightly (5g) and I feel better than I have since I started the diet. I feel 20 carbs a day was a little too low for my body. Stuck it out for the two weeks except cheated with one cup of coffee a day......

Yes. All major low carb programs are an exercise in learning about one's individual metabolism. The main thing I think I've learned (as the dear sisters repeatedly admonished me in my youth) is to "pay attention!"

Day three of low carb! Been having headaches but I am hoping it passes soon. I bought those ketone urine strips today and it appears that I have small amount of ketones. This means low carb is working, right?

Default I am a newbie!

Thanks for the support. Felt better increasing my carbs a little but a couple of days later I am back to headaches, nausea, and diarrhea. Comes and goes throughout the day. I am hoping it will pass soon as I am going on 3 weeks on LCE. It makes it hard to go workout when I want to. I have to wait untill I am having a good spell in the day to go to the gym. I have no problem adhereing to the low carb menus and I check with the keto sticks to see if I am in ketosis. I will stick it out and hope it passes soon.
