| If one's kidneys are healthy (and it generally takes many, many years of diabetes to develop renal problems) there should be no problem with proteins. For a very thorough discussion of the science behind why low carbing is important for diabetics, you may want to look at Dr. Bernstein's books or visit his web site.

That is exactly where I was. I posted the link to it on another board I belong to (not a health one) and someone said that low carbs were not good for diabetics because there is too much protein in them. Since I posted that question I read in Protein Power that you still need so many grams of protein depending on your lean body mass. So I would think even a diabetic would still need a certain amount of protein. My father is diabetic and he eats meat.......not a large amount as he is not a large eater.
