Hi Everyone Im new...I have a quick question. I have been on the akins diet for a long time now and have always heard that you are suppose to lose your appetite. Well that has never been the case with me. I am always hungry. I am an active person, butI don't believe my metabolism is that fast. I just had breakfast which was 3 eggs with mayo and an oz of sausage with a tablespoon of parmesean cheese, and a tablespoon of coconut oil. Its been less than an hour and a half and I am starving. There was lots of fat in that meal too. Is this some kind of disorder? Like Prediabeties or something? I am 5'5 and weigh 122. I go more by body fat though and I would like mine to be a little less. Please give some advice...I eat all the time and it's getting on my nerves. Im afraid it's going to make me gain soon. I want to stay full!

Hello, Lynn. Welcome to LCE.

(I deleted your cross posting of this questions in newbie forum because crossposting makes it more difficult for others to follow the conversation.)

It is very unusual to be hungry on Atkins, and Dr. Atkins was pretty clear about his recommendation: if you're hungry, eat. He also advises several smaller meals throughout the day instead of fewer, larger meals.

At your height and weight, I wouldn't expect you to be working on losing. To address body fat concerns, you may want to look at some exercise, and specifically strength training. Building muscle reduces body fat percentage.

If you suspect you may have some sort of medical issue contributing to ongoing hunger, please consult with your doctor. It is not a common byproduct of this way of eating, particularly if you consume adequate protein and fat.

Thank you for the response...Yes I do workout and with weights. I am 5'4 by the way at 120 not 5'5. I have alot of muscle, and on days I workout I am even hungrier. I have a trainer and I eat 6 small meals a day actually everytime Im hungry. I guess I just want to know its ok. I went on a trip recently with my husband and another couple and the lady with us was pregnant...I ate more than everyone. Im so hungry all the time I feel like food it interupts my day and thinking. When I got home from the trip I decided to count my calories, well after I got through half the day I decided I better completely cut back. With cutting back I still took in 2000 calories. So I cant imagine what I was taking in before. I stay on induction. I find that if I go off of it I gain quickly from carbs. I just didn't know if this was some kind of insulin problem or something.

just for clarification - hunger is NOT a known side effect of low carb eating. greatly reduced appetite is.

if you suspect you may have a medical problem, we strongly encourage you to see your doctor. we cannot help in situations that require medical advice, so i'm closing this thread.
