Default Any "Newbies" want to team up?

I thought it might be nice if any of us "newbies" could maybe reply to the same thread and brain storm, list our basic meals, ideas or questions, products or recipes we've tried and liked, etc.
I just restarted Atkins this week and want to do strict Induction for a pretty long time so we can pick up other newcomers as we go perhaps? I know the technical questions of coarse should go to the seansoned experts but I would like a couple of 'buddies' to discuss our everyday thoughts and feelings and help each other get through this happily and successfully with the support of others just like us.
So if anyone out there who just started who need a support team of other novices (like me) please just start replying to this thread, okay? (otherwise I will be sad all day)

Hi Cindarella,
Count me in. I don't know if I count as a newbie -- lost a bunch of weight locarbing years ago, then quit. Too bad I did cuz I'm three times that size now. I have been lowcarbing this time since July, I lost 53 lbs. but have been stalled out since I started teaching again the 2nd week of August. I was doing my own thing, but today I am going to used book store to find another copy of Atkins== I want to stay on strict induction as long as I can, partly for weight loss and partly because it seems there are some food items I am either alergic to, or than in some other way affect my fibromyalgia and arthritis. I felt so great during the "induction" phase of my own plan. Can I join your club?? Please? I have already met a couple of wonderful people on this site who encourage me so much. Hope you are doing well.

Yea!! So far it's just you and me but hopefully more will trickle in!
I actually am not a total newbie either. I joinded this site like 2 yrs. ago and did it for 2 or 3 months but got frustrated because my ketosticks didn't turn purple and I know I should have just kept going but I was stupid. I have done many other things since then and I actually did Atkins first about 30 years ago and did well. Every time I tried it after that I would only lose about 10 pounds and give up. I do want to stick with it this time and need some support so I am hoping we can support each other and anyone else that wants in!
I now have the book: "Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution" which does explain induction and I'll be happy to give you any info from it you need. I used to have his very first book which I wish I still had. I am trying to follow that plan really which is basically the same but almost zero carbs in the beginning then gradually add some lettuce etc.
So Cool! Let's get this thing going! Woo Hoo!

How foolish I feel posting to myself, oh well, gotta start somewhere!

My husband is dove hunting again this morning. We have tried dove dozens of times and hated it, thought it was gamey and tasted like liver but he finally found a great way to make them and low carb! Stuff the deboned, skinned tiny breast with a piece of jalopeno, close it and wrap with bacon and grill until the bacon is done. Omg! So good. The jalapeno pepper must take any wild taste away while the bacon gives it moisture and that wonderful bacon flavor! You can also stuff it with a hunk of cheese as well as the pepper.
I know many of you would cringe at the thought of eating wild game but thought I would throw it out there. You could do something similar with chicken breast, stuffed with cheese wrapped in bacon. That's a common recipe and it's good too. I do it in the oven very high temp.

Anyone got any recipe suggestions or ideas they can throw out?

Count me in.
I love to go dove hunting, but its one of the many things i quit when I got so fat and tired and my knees gave out. I too never loved the taste of dove, except maybe Dove bars, until I tried the same recipe u suggest. Wild game is one of the healthiest foods u can eat. Be sure to check carefully for pellets though, it is a rude shock to bite into one, lol.
The same recipe works well with pheasant, the fat in the bacon keeps game birds tender and moist. In something like duck which is high fat (and I hate by the way) I think it hides the taste. Pheasant is divine!!
I blew it again last night with pizza, thats pizza twice in 3 weeks. I set myself up for the problem though by not having anything in the house and being so tired and hungry. Gotta plan. If i can get my stepmom on the plan with me we will do ok,because we team up for meal planning and eat together several nights a week. We did when my dad was alive, and its kept us from going insane since he passed away. Trying to get whole family on Atkins induction except my skinny 6 year old-- though even he does better on higher protien and fewer carbs. He is a little nuclear power plant, I think he generates his own energy, and its relatively clean, lol.

Don't beat yourself up about the pizza, whats done is done, right? If we were all perfect we would'nt have gotten ourselves in this situation in the first place.
Good tip about pheasant, unfortunately they aren't around here but if we ever move back to the midwest I'm sure my hubby will hunt them too. Cool that you like wild game, so many people don't, especially women and it's crazy because they just say they don't like it and many have never tried it! He got drawn for deer this year and I'm hoping he gets one!

Thanks for joining me in this journey, let's make it a good one!

Hi gang, or should I just say "hi"?
So my hubby just made shrimp scampi but with Franks Red Hot (0 carbs) and was it yummy. Franks is the brand that the original buffalo wings place uses along with butter for their famous hot wings and that's exactly what it tasted like, very creamy and not too terribly hot. I never could use butter before because I was always counting calories or points so that was really decadent!

Made a pork loin roast today wrapped in bacon to keep it moist. We will basically use it like lunchmeat. Since it's Labor Day lots of pork and steaks etc. seem to be on sale so I got it for $1.77 a pound. Also stocked up on steaks and spareribs all on sale. Now is the time to stock up on the proteins, when they are on sale, if you have a freezer it's a good time to put it to use.

Have a great evening! p.s. I don't have spellcheck and can't use this one so sorry if I spell like I'm illiterate, really they are typos, I can spell I just try to rush through the typing.

Hi
Im not new,
been doing it a little over a month, lost like 12 pounds
getting a bit frustrated as I am not cheating, (Do you gain weight saying you want a ice cream?)
But I dont want to give up or give in.
I am also celiac and cannot eat gluten, which is in grains, boxed foods, etc. So Atkins makes sense as a WOE too. I am still on induction.
BTW the only Dove I like is the candy bar, I am a city girl, and not sure I could hunt, yes I know, the meat I eat was alive at one time, but I didnt see it alive)
lol
thanks for doing this thread

Yeah! Glad you joined us Sandi!
I'm a city girl too, it's my husband who is Grizzley Adams or Davey Crockett! He hunts them, cleans them and cooks them! I've never had to fillet a fish or look at bloody fur or feathers. But I try almost everything with an open mind and usually like it, especially since I didn't have to cook it!

I agree this WOE is frustrating because it's not a miracle, and not all that quick and that's probably why we give up, that's why I did, but I swear I really want to stick with it this time and I need support so hopefully our little group can support each other.
I reflect back on all the mistakes I made before and am going to try to better.
Example: Heavy whipping cream (it said 0 carbs) with a little zero carb flavored sweetner, whip it up and you've got a nice bowl of awesome flavored whipped cream. No problem...right? Well I can't tell you the number of times I sat down and scarfed down the entire bowl! Like it was ice cream or something.
Also went crazy with the cheese. I would buy the stuff that said zero carbs so would eat it unlimited, I'm a cheesehead, originally from Wisconsin, what can I say?
Anyway I know this time I have to limit my cheese and heavy cream to 4 ounces a day. I KNEW I was overdoing it before but lied to myself, saying it's fine, it's zero carbs and we're supposed to be able to eat all we want.
No wonder I didn't lose weight, or enough weight.

I'm still eating way too much, like the amount of a Lumberjack but I'm trying to get through the first week of cravings so I totally pig out on the legal foods. *see, I just realized I'm making excuses again!

I need you guys to make me good, keep me in line, okay?

So let's challenge each other, help each other and if we stray we will pull that person back on track, okay?
So it's great you joined our little journey, can't wait to get to know you!

Any of you gals ever make the One Minute Muffin? They are awesome and okay for induction! I bought some Bob's Red Mill brand Flax meal at Walmart today for only like $3.47! (fyi: I 'think' it's also gluten free)
So now I've got to look for the recipe on the cooking thread. You must give it a try if you haven't. I will post the recipe here if you don't have it already!

1-Minute Muffin

In a tea cup,

Melt 1 or 2 tsp of butter or coconut oil (microwave for 5-10 seconds*)
Mix in 1/4 cup of flaxseed meal (and/or mix with almond meal, protein powder)
1/4 tsp of baking powder
1 egg
Sweetener to taste (i.e., 1-2 packets of Splenda or 1 TBS of SF syrup)
Microwave on high for 1 minute*
Turn out and let cool

The muffin may look kind of wet at first, but it dries quickly as it cools.
Eat warm with butter or wrap cooled muffin in plastic to eat later.

*cooking time may vary depending on your microwave, avoid overcooking

I use a small tupperware bowl and you can make this savory or sweet. That particular brand "Bob's Red Mill" Flax meal has 4 net carbs and 4 fiber therefore s/b zero carbs!

Thanks for the welcome!
The first month I ate what I needed, I didnt worry about how much. I dont think I over ate too much. Now I am looking to learn portion control. I am going on 2nd month.
My weight is not moving, which is frustrating, as I am being good about not cheating.

We all make excuses to get what we want. Which is the reason why I am so fat.

I am determine to do it now. I have alot of reasons why I have to lose weight.
I just wish it would hurray lol
thanks for accepting the frend request and the comment, I tried to leave one for you and I couldnt find it lol
Have a good night

Happy Labor Day!
What's on the agenda for today? Any picnics or BBQ"s? We're planning on a couple racks of ribs on the Q (no BBQ sauce of coarse!)

Mike is dove hunting right now but should be home soon and then we are going to mall walk before the stores open to get some exercise. The doors open at 6 am but the stores don't open until 10 or 11 so all the folks there are walkers. We live in the NW area of the city and pretty close to "Sun City" which is strictly a retirement area so lots of old folks go there to walk, as well as all ages but it's pretty cute. We even have names for lots of the people. "Wheels" a spry old guy with a walker, "long stride", "high stepper", "backpackers", "the twins", "Tex", etc. you get the picture.
I try to go during the week also but it's not as much fun to go alone. I always wear scrubs because they are so comfy and I don't care if I get them sweaty so If the other walkers make up names for people mine would probably be "nurse". lol!

Later!

Nothing exciting here, Oldest took the other 2 to camp out at a friends apt for the last 3 days and they are all sleeping now. And will be most of the day I am sure.
Today isnt a good day today emotionally
It is my husbands birthday, he would have been 54 if he was alive. I miss him so much, It has been 15 years and I dont think I ever gotten over it.
But so far no cheats, last year I pigged out so its going ok now, I guess
