Does anyone know how to set up a custom avatar? like a picture or something from another site? It askes for a customer URL, but I don't have a clue what I am doing.

an avatar is that little sqaure with the picture in it that you will find under my name or other's names on the board.

in order to set up a custom avatar, you must have the photo hosted somewhere on the web, and for best results, it should be as close to 48x48 pixels as you can get it.

Use the tab at the top of this forum that says "MY Space" and then choose "profile". From there you can "edit your avatar".

Let's see if this works. It was just a quick one to see if I could do it.

Okay here is what I did, after spending a lot of time on the web.. I am still having some issues with it showing up..

First you have to have some sort of web space to upload your pictures to. You can set up your own web site if you go to www.tripod.com. There is no fee if you pick the small space. They walk you through everything so it is super easy.

Next go into a paint program, it is better if you have a better program than just MS Paint, but that is what I used. I cropped my picture and it was 100 x 100 pixels and copied it onto a new page in paint. I went to adjustments and stretched it down by 52% (to get to 48x48). Then I adjusted the page to 48x48 and saved. I uploaded the picture to my very sad looking website.

Go to your 'new website' and right click on the picture. If you go to properties, it will give you the URL address to the picture, copy it and paste it into your profile and it should show up. For some reason every other time I post it turns into the Tripod logo.. I will have to keep playing with it. I am not trying to promote their website but when I found an Avatar for Dummies page they suggested their site or angelfire.com because of the free space.
