I started Atkins two weeks ago and only lost 2 lbs. so far. Other diets I have gone on, such as WW, I have always lost at least 4 to 5 lbs. in the first week. I have read Atkins book from cover to cover and feel that I am doing everything that I am supposed to be doing. The first week, I had purchased and eaten an Atkins Candy Bar and then realized that was not allowed during inductin. So I am not even doing that. I feel depressed that I am not seeing the weight loss that I expected. Is this common. So many people tell me about the great weight loss they have had during the inductin period. Why not me. I really want to stay on this program. I am not as hungry and I am not craving carbs or sweets, so that is a plus. Any ideas as to what I should do to see a bigger weight loss. I am even exercising at least 3 to 4 times a week. Suggestions are most welcome. Thanks, Anne

Well, I don't have any particular suggestion, but I will say this. Atkins does say some folks are metabolically resistant and don't lose weight as quickly or as easily as others.. Also, I only lost about 2 lbs my first two weeks. I'm now down over 30 and counting. Been averaging about 2 lbs a week over the long run. Since starting, I've have no cravings, I feel good, and I am never overly hungry. Hang in there... --jim

Hi Anne, You don't mention how much you have to lose but if you are pretty close to your goal weight, say within 25-30 pounds, losing slow is pretty much the norm. I've been on the plan for 4 months and lost 10 pounds. Post a few days of your menus and perhaps the vets here can spot something that may be working against you. Are you drinking all your water? The guideline I've seen is to divide your current weight in half and that's the number of ounces you should be drinking (ie if you weigh 200 pounds, drink 100 ounces of water daily). Remember that carbs hide in places you wouldn't think of... coffee has them, breath mints have them, even some vitimin supplements have them! Take a few days and keep a very detailed food journal. Log your portions and everything you put in your mouth. You may not be eating enough protein and fat (yes, it's actually possible to eat too little on this plan and stall yourself... that's where the WW training will work against you sometimes). Welcome to LCE. You'll find the support and information you need to succeed here. Ginger 159/149/135 Life is NOT a dress rehearsal

I am new too and I just started today so I am hoping for a BIG loss but I am also making myself understand that any loss is good. I read the info on the Atkins site since I haven't bought the book yet and it says that if you are on the pill, it may slow down your loss because of the estrogen. Also because you are exercising, you could be gaining wonderful muscle which weighs more than fat but also helps you burn it. So that is a plus. Good luck with everything and please don't let the slow loss get you down! You ARE losing!!!

Anne, Good advice so far by everyone. If you will kindly post a few days worth of menus and tell us how many pounds you are wanting to lose, and also your height, we may me more able to help. On a personal note, I accidentially derailed myself with the Atkins advantage bars, and it was difficult to get back on track for me. Your best bet is to keep it simple for the first several weeks, ie, eating whole foods, fresh veggies, eggs, and watching the amounts of cheese you consume(per the book). Keep coming to the boards and posting...there are lots of wise ole LC-ers on this site...LOL HTH Shelley sg *********** "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

I would love to post my menus, but not sure how to do that. I am 5 ft. 5 inches tall and not that young anymore (66 in a few days). Not that easy to lose weight as when I was younger. I would like to lose 25 lbs. Thanks for the response. Anne

Anne, Just post your menus in this forum. As long as someone is posting on this thread, it will keep going. First of all, being as close to your goal as you are, may take longer. I, too, am wanting to lose 20-25 lbs, and am also about your height(5'4"). Next, age does make a difference, but I'm dog-gone if I would ever admit that outside of this forum...hehe. If you are on HRT Atkins feels that may slow things down. The next really important thing of course is your water intake. It is really recommended to take half your body wt in ounces. Exercise also, according to Dr Atkins, is not an option...it's a requirement. If you can, you might want to add another day of walking, or some other form of exercise you enjoy....in other words, shake things up a bit. Let us see your food intake(menus) and maybe we can help a little more. Hang in there...don't stop...you may be losing inches and just not pounds at this time. Measure yourself if you haven't done so yet. HTH Shelley sg *********** "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"
