Here is some stuff I found on the atkins.com FAQ page.

Isn't doing Atkins bad for your heart?

Most people on the Atkins Nutritional program lower their cholesterol and improve their blood lipid profile (HDL/Total ratio and Triglyceriedes) which is MUCH more important than the total cholesterol number.

No, Atkins is not "bad for your heart." Remember that Robert Atkins was a cardiologist. Ozziesgirl's link is only a part of the story. There's no substitute for reading the whole book. Also search the Atkins site for research articles "Science behind Atkins" for more information - and articles to print out and give to your doctor if he/she isn't up on the latest research.

When I started this WOE my cholesterol was 278. Six weeks later I had it checked and it was 140. All of my other levels dramatically improved also. So I know for a fact this WOE is much better for me. Beverly

What Maggie says is absolutely right!

I have been low carbing for 21 months - in that time, I've lowered my total cholesterol from 284 to 201, lowered my triglycerides from 555 to 57, and lowered my blood pressure from 140/100 to 110/70. Additionally, I've increased my cardio stamina and no longer have arrhythmia.

Bad for my heart? Horrible for cholesterol? Not mine!

If your doctor thinks that meds are called for, don't fight him.......It's much better than a heart attack. I've been on Lipitor for years. My most recent bloods (last week) gave me a rating of below average risk of heart disease. I'm all for that. I have way too much family history of heart diesase. Anything and everything to prevent the problem is a positive in my book. I've seen the effects of heart disease --- I don't want to go there.
