Hi Everyone... I just joined this site today and I was so excited to have found it. I started Atkins on 8/25/03 and I am down 6 lbs. I received the email from ediets and saw the founder of this site so I gave it a shot and I'm happy I did. I have 45 lbs more to go and I know I can do it. Thanks for making a site like this. Good luck to everyone!

I just started 08/25/03 with low carb eating. I have lost 6 lbs already. I found I don't miss the carbs. I have had a really hard time losing weight. I am just about 5' and every lb shows. This web site is helping me so much. I am trying to get my husband started.
I don't know what I would do without this site.
Thank you!

It is good to see all these newbies! I don't feel so alone now. I am thrilled to be eating better, feeling better and losing weight too! I have a long ways to go-80 lbs, but I know I can make this change for life. Now if I could just learn to hate warm baked goods.

Keep up the good work and remember nothing tastes as good as bveing thin feels.

Hugs and prayers for the Journey,
Karen in CO

I started my diet on 08-26-03 after a checkup that said I'd gained 15 pounds. I started at 180, weighed on Friday at 178. I really want to weigh around 125, but would be real happy with 150, so I guess I'll set my goal at 150 for now. I'm having a real hard time with wanting pop and I don't mean diet pop. I never want pop and all of a sudden I have a craving for it. What is the deal?

The book is a good motivator. I think I'm going to get mine out and read again, although I've only read the first 10 chapters (Induction phase). It's been a year since I've read mine and I'm really having trouble staying with the lc diet this time.

Welcome Newbies
I think getting the book and giving it a thorough read and then keeping it at hand for reference is very important. I've seen a lot of people make serious mistakes because they didn't buy the book.

Hey, Lisa!

I missed your original post on the "hair issue." LOL. I'm just starting to get my "virtual feet" under me here at this new site.

Yes, I've been a redhead since July 4th of 2003. My own personal declaration of independence, I guess. My current pic is the one I posted to two really funny threads that developed from my adventures with hair color. LOL!

Kind of sorry to have lost them. The members were in rare form!

You'll really like it here, I'm sure.

I also want to extend a warm welcome to all the new comers to the LCE site

and i want to reiterate what Rob just mentioned... YOU will need the book to do Dr. Atkins way of eating properly.

a few of us have various versions of his book - and many of us have various OTHER low carb books.

you must understand the HOW's and the WHY's of this way of eating - sure, just cutting back on the carbs you eat will help you - but you also have to understand what is going on in your body when you cut carbs, and when you eat carbs.

Checking out the official web site will help (http://www.atkinscenter.com) and this message board may help, but the book, and all the low carb books out there will help you with the understanding of WHY this really does work.

so - please do yourself a favor and invest less then 10 bucks and get the latest version of Dr A's book. (I think it has a white cover)

Hello, all! I'm a newbie to this site. I too saw the ediets ad with the founder of this site being featured, and that's how I stumbled across this website. I started Atkins on 08/23 with my dad, and to date I have lost 9 pounds! I am very excited.

@sharon: 14 pounds is AWESOME! According to the Atkins website, you have a low metabolic resistance. I've read that some people can't even lose 6 pounds in the first two weeks because their resistance is so high. Don't be discouraged, you are well on your way! Most doctors and nutritionists say you should be losing about 1-2 pounds a week; you're talking 7 per week! Good job.

I do love this site! I came home from work and just had to get on and see how everyone else is doing today.

Today was the first day of the kids being back at school and I had six walk ins. They all wanted to start today. YIKES. It does make the job more interesting and it sure makes the day fly by.

Hello!
My name is Carol and I am new here. I signed up the afternoon the site went down. I got back on and reregestered!! I am so happy there is a place that I can come to that has a TON of knowledgable ppl doing low carb dieting and seeing that you all seem very close knit. This is a GOD send to be able to search this site for answers. I have a few that I have not found yet and hoping you can help.

I have been doing the Atkins diet now for almost a week. I started before dh got paid with what I had left in the house to eat but only counting the last few days of it. Since Sat when we started the program full force I have noticed that I am up all night having to go to the bathroom. Its so annoying and I know I have to drink my water, but I cant help feel it could be something else like water weight?? Has anyone here gone through this?

My second question is a bit embarrassing so I hope not to offend anyone. I am having some loose stools since Sat. This happens mainly in the early evening. Not sure why. I will say that before this diet I was only eating processed cheese every so often and not any other dairy like cream. A year ago I was told to quit dairy for suspected food sensivities along with wheat and gluten. I am not sure if this is my bodies way of saying cheese isnt good for me or since this is the Induction stage my body is getting rid of "toxins" since its still early??? Any help would be nice

Thanks!!

Blessings,

Carol

Hello everyone! I must admit that I have been lurking for about a week until I registered earlier today. I love this website. You guys have so much support here, and I am glad that I am able to be apart of it!

I started Atkins on 8/19/03 and have only lost 2lbs so far. I am extremely upset (like i read in another thread I want to see the lbs drop!) but I am exercising 5 days a week and do notice a slight (but significant) change in my body. (I have lost 1.5 inches in my hips and 1 in my chest, I haven't been measuring my thighs but will start at my next taping.
I have realized (but I am still trying to break) what I think that is slowing my weight loss down. I am eating too much cheese, and on the 29th it was my birthday and HAD to have ice cream. Even tho it was low carb I started having cravings again. Plus, for my birthday i decided to make the orange-cranberry bread, which i ended up eating in 2 days (for fear of it getting hard lol) this also has slowed me down.... and caused me to crave more bread.

I think I will stay on the "induction" phase for a little while longer, I am going to cut out the cheese, and even though I went out and bought everything I needed (IAW the recipie on the back of Atkins bake mix) to make a loaf of bread, I will wait. None of the ingredients will spoil.

Thank you again! Hope to lean and be leaned on for support!!!
