I have been waking up during the night so darn hungry. Is this normal? I have not been getting up to eat, but by the time breakfast rolls around I am starved and can't wait to eat.

Am I not eating enought to sustain me? What is my problem?

Darlene,

Could you give us a sample of a couple days' menus to look at? Also, list the approximate time you are eating your last meals/snacks of the day.
Really, NO ONE should be hungry on this woe (way of eating) -- unless you are still on induction. If you are still on induction, you may be experiencing some hunger or strong cravings...
But go ahead and list your menus anyway; there might be a clue there.

Well, the *only* thing I can think of is that you *might* want to have a very small snack before bedtime. It doesn't have to something heavy -- I COMPLETELY understand your not wanting to eat at night! But it definitely sounds like your blood sugar is dropping too low during the night and it's not for lack of food during the day.
There are just too many hours between your last meal and breakfast!
Have you ever monitored your blood sugar? It almost sounds like you have a touch of hypoglycemia going on...
Perhaps having something very light, but which will stabilize your blood glucose through the night, will keep you from waking up hungry?

I would try to eat some berries or maybe a Ryevita with some cream cheese on it right before bed. This is not enough to make you gain, but might keep your blood sugar stable through the night.
HTH,

I agree. If you eat dinner at 5pm and don't go to bed until around 10pm, that's 5 hours without food. Then you have to add sleep time. You're going 13-14 hours without food!

I don't like eating late either but, I would suggest having a msall snack about 2 hours before bed. That might be enough to help stave off the hunger.

Another thing you might consider is slightly reducing the number of grain carbs you are eating. Pancakes and rice (even if fairly low carb) are still much higher carb than green veggies. Especially brown rice.

Good luck.

I have a light no carb snack before bed every night for that very reason -waking up at 2 or 3 am with a headache and starving! The key is to keep it small and no carb.

I agree with what they are saying.. although I have to say that my first thoughts were that maybe you were eating to close to bedtime. But that don't seem to be the case from what you posted. From personal experiance.. if I eat to close to bed time (no matter what I eat) I wake up ready to eat everything in sight! LOL

Hi Darlene... all these vets have given you some good advice. I might also add that I find that the fewer carbs I eat later the better. So I have a bulk of my carbs (especially the grains, like your brown rice or in this case that LC bread) BEFORE the dinner meal (at lunch especially... and I try to keep dinner fairly carb-free (except for the veggies). I find that if there are ANY carbs in my system at dinner time - I can wake in the morning hungry. Otherwise, I'm good to go until the eggs at breakfast!

Good luck!

Rachel

I ate a boiled egg and a cold lean hamburger before retiring last night and it did help. I didn't wake ready to eat anything that ws in my path.

I decided to post my "Fitday" page, so here goes-

Darlene... your fitday entries look really very good. I must say - I'm stumped. I am thinking that what Marcie Lynn posted is the most on target for you. Most folks don't have dinner until 6-7, even 8pm. You may find that instead of needing a snack between b'fast and lunch or between lunch and dinner... your particular schedule makes more sense for a snack in the evening.

Sorry I can't be of more help!

Hugs,
Rachel

Okay, this may seem like a silly statement, but isn't the point of "break"fast to recharge the furnance? Wouldn't it be normal when eating "correctly", to generate hunger pains after 9 to 10 hours of no food. Thus stimulating the need to consume food. This seems natural to me.

Actually, I look forward to having that "grumble" in the tummy in the mornings. Doesn't this inticate that we are now aligning our eating to what nature intended?

This WOE for me has meant being more in tune with my body and really being aware of what actually drives my eating urges.

Sorry if this sounds a little esoteric.

Information gladly given, but safety requires no unnecessary conversation.

I get very hungry, especially the next day, if I have too many carbs the day before. (my signal is, if I wake up very hungry, I overdid the carbs the previous day.)I get sugar cravings from Equal (aspatame, Nutrasweet). I have been making my own protein shake for breakfast. I drink it around 7:30am and don't eat until lunch, which right now is around 12:30pm. The shake sustains me very well. I also find that MSG triggers hunger.

Redd,
You're right; it IS normal to wake up hungry the next morning, but Darlene is waking up DURING the night.
That shouldn't be happening -- especially since she is not skimping on the food. She's eating perfectly.
This *must* be a case of plummeting blood sugar and a before-bed snack is probably the only solution.

On some of the days on your Fitday, you're eating very, very few calories. I don't think you should make yourself eat more, but if you're trying to make yourself eat that little food, you might want to give yourself permission to eat more food.

You might want to get rid of some of the high glycemic carbs, like the brown rice. I was surprised to see that in there. Surprised nobody else commented about removing that. I don't think that's a good idea.

Yes, you should eat something later in the evening, something with a lot of fat in it. It is hypoglycemia that is waking you up. A mock danish would be a nice late night snack.
