....to have set my goal at 45 lbs down by the end of Feb/04? I could even deal with the end of March. I am going on vacation in March or April and WANT to wear that bikini. I am hoping to stick to this, although it is my second day and I cheated already, a carb laden CUPCAKE!!!! AHHH ~Steph

Steph, You ate a cupcake??? I hate to tell you this, but you need to start over. Make tomorrow day ONE and this time REALLY try to stick to induction. For most people, if you can make it past the first 4 or 5 days, ketosis kicks in and your appetite goes way down. But YOU have to make the commitment to stick with it more than 24 hours. The goal is not totally unrealistic... IF you are committed. I wish you the best, Summer www.herstorygirl.com

Hey Lawbooks. Thanks for your advice. It wasn't cravings/appetite but emotional eating and it will not happen again. I am stronger than this and know I can do it, I have before, I can again. Thanks for your help ~Steph

Stick with your LC WOE and you won't want that cupcake. Really! You can choose to try to lose weight 1 of 2 ways.. you can either do the 'low-fat, high carb thing' and stay hungry most of the time or you can join the ranks of the LC folks here and do a 'LC, higher fat WOE' and not go hungry or put your body into 'starvation mode'. A high fat, high carb diet is a surefire way to gain fat rapidly. I would start over if I were you, if you are indeed serious about a LC WOL. Follow your plans induction TO THE LETTER and those cravings will dissappear like magic. Best of luck, Susan LC and feeling better every day! Atkins since 7/18/03 210/190/140

Next time a cupcake is trying to jump into your mouth, try eating a small piece cheese instead. You might want to keep some good legal treats ready for emergencies - a batch of low carb chicken wings, hard boiled eggs or deviled eggs, cheese slices, veggie slices and sour cream dip, turkey or roast beef roll-ups - that kind of thing. Josh, I think I remember somebody (Andrea?) saying a little bit of mustard would kill a sweet craving. Good luck! I know you can do this! ~~~Teelbee "remember, amateurs built the Ark, professionals built the Titanic." 174 (Mar. 2002 highest weight) 164 (Jan. 2003, begin LC) 164/135.5/137-134

| Excellent ideas from Teelbee. As far as your goal is concerned, it's no problem IF YOU ARE PERFECT FOR THE NEXT SIX MONTHS. If you are NOT perfect for the next six months then I would say no, it's probably not realistic. That's really going to depend on you. I can speak from experience. I've been low carbing since June 2001. I started at 210. I hit 152 last December then went on vacation and gained back 20. Got back from vacation in January and put on another 10. So, here I sit at 185. Sure, I'm 25 pounds less than I was in June 2001 but after over 2 years, you'd think I was at goal. The moral to this story is that you just never know. I think most of us on this board eat for many reasons other than hunger and that spell "bumps in the road" when it comes to weight loss. This doesn't mean you shouldn't try. I'm very glad I did. I came within 12 pounds of goal and while I did gain some back, I'm more determined than ever to get back down there and finally hit goal. Good luck!
