Why can't you eat more than 3 cups of vegetables a day so long as you stay under the 20 carb limit of induction? Would the extra veggies throw you out of ketosis or cause an unwanted insulin spike?
This has always bothered me about the Atkins diet...we are given a set of rules to follow with little explanation or logic to back them up.

This is just my opinion.
As long as you stay within the 20 carbs and stick to the allowed veggies, I say go for it. I did during induction and it didn't slow my loss at all.

I eat mainly veggies for 2 meals a day without measuring them but probably have more than 3 cups and I was worried I was having too many, acyually the more I'm reading the posts, the more I worry about whether I'm having the right amount of cheese/cream/veggies aaaaghhh! Thanks for that one, I feel a bit better now and the scales are still going in the right direction, now all I have to do is convert oz of water into either pints or litres so I can work out my water allowance!!

I agree with Bright Lady. I ate all the dark green veggies I wanted plus some onion and tomato during Induction and I lost 13lbs. I also feasted on salads. I guess my body was just grateful that I wasn't putting cake, doughnuts and cookies into it!

If you are hungry, and fancy a steak with a pile of broccoli, green beans and spinach, and a dab of sour cream, go for it. Whoever got fat eating vegetables?
Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

Trude, shoot for about 3-4 litres.

A liter is about 34 oz. of water.

How much you should drink should be based on your size, roughly. The general rule of thumb is to drink a half ounce of water for every pound you weigh - more if you are sweating due to heat or exercise.

Hmmm...what does that work out to in kilos? 1 kilo = 2.2 pounds, and 1 ounce = .97 Imperial ounces. So, 1 imperial ounce per kilo of weight is a pretty close approximation for the rule of thumb (I hope that arithmetic is right; someone please correct me otherwise, LOL!)

Thus, a 200-pound person should drink about 100 ounces of water daily. Similarly, a 100-kg person would need about 100 ounces daily.

I agree that it's hard to over do the good veggies. You can over do the salad dressings, butter, or cream and cheese sauces on veggies, though, if you use those on your vegetables. Those have carbs, too, and they are quite dense in calories.

Some might disagree with me, but I think unlimited lc veggies, even on induction, is fine. Even if you ate 6 cups of veggies a day, that wouldn't add that many carbs.

When I did a re-induction after being on Atkins for 6 months (trying to break a stall), I strictly followed induction, but made my veggies unlimited. I lost double what I lost on my first induction.

To Teri, did you eat only acceptable veggies or did you eat whatever ones you wanted?

I've gone the way of making legal veggies unlimited, too. My salads are HUGE. It's really helped me get in all of my carb grams during the day without turning too heavily to nuts or prepackaged foods for them. This is the first week I've done unlimited veggies...I'll let you know on Monday if I'm showing a loss.

Cheers!
