HI everyone,
My name is Alexandra and I live in Australia. I weigh 100 kgs and need to lose 40 kgs. I am about to go on the journey you all have started. This is exciting and scarey. Eat meat with fat, creams..... wow it sounds like I will add another 50 kgs.
Can anyone tell me the average wieght lose on induction? and if I have to lose so much wieght do i stay on induction longer? Is that how it works? I am a little confused. sorry.
I pray that this works as it effects all my being.
Luckly I love meat chicken ect.. unfortunatly here seafood is expensive cause I love that to lol.
thankyou for listening to me and looking forward to getting to know all of you.

I can tell you do not stay on induction for long periods of time.....It will make your body revert to starve mode and will ultimately cause you to stop losing or even gain weight. Induction is to help rid your body of bad things and to get the fat burning started. Anyway if you haven't read the book, read it first....it will help so much with the reason for doing things, and that will help you understand the diet better.

Don't be scared it's exciting. I started the induction on 09/01/03 and I lost 9 lbs. and my 16 yr. old lost 10lbs. since Monday. This should be exciting for you. Good luck . Feel free to write me.

Hi Alex

Welcome to the boards! Yes, Atkins sounds scary, the thought of all that fat and calories, it can't possibly make us slimmer... - but as people here will tell you, the diet works. I started out at the end of May, weighing about what you do now, and I've lost 25lbs so far; the real difference is that I feel so much better in myself, more positive and enthusiastic about life. I've still got a long way to go and I have got to grasp the exercise nettle a bit harder, but I'm getting there, and I've already given some of my fattest clothes to the charity shop.

How much you lose on Induction depends on your metabolism. If you read Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution you will see he has a section on this. People lose at different rates. I can only say, hopefully, that as you have quite a bit to lose, you may well lose more on Induction than someone who only needs to drop a few pounds.

How much you lose on Induction also depends on your motivation. If you give in to cravings (and you will have them, we all have), the weight may not move. But if you hang on in there you have a very good chance of success.

Ask yourself, what have you got to lose? Yes, starting this new way of eating can feel like a real risk with all the high calorie choices, but if you continue in your old way of eating, you will likely gain weight anyway. Give low carbing a chance, if you can't get on with it, at least you will have tried.

If you are on any medications, these can affect weight loss (this applies to most diets).
I wish you all the best!
Clare
PS: Despite having about 80 pounds to lose when I started out, I stayed on Induction 2 weeks only. However, I have tended to add very cautiously, things like nuts, berries and natural yogurt. The old timers on this site do not favour long Induction periods.

Breakfast: Two eggs with salsa and five brown-n-serve sausages.

Lunch: Tuna salad on a bed of romaine lettuce with some cherry tomatoes.

Dinner: A double-cheeseburger with grilled onions from a take-out place. Throw away the bun.

Pick a program. Read the book.

No kidding, it really IS that important.

It's easy to put a menu together when you have a list of acceptable induction foods right in front of you. Also, once you understand the principles of low carb eating, you will no longer live in "fear of fat." Don't just take it on faith. Read the book, then read the scientific research that supports it.

When you read the book, the science behind LC makes perfect sense. You can either try to lose weight the other way (LF, HC), where you are hungry most of the time or you can do a LC, higher (good) fat diet, lose weight, feel better and be satisfied. I love this WOE!

LC and feeling better every day!

The reason you're scared and aprehensive is because you're uninformed. We are only scared of what we don't know.

Become informed.

Buy the book, read it, research all of you can about low carb, talk with your doctor, come here and post often and read what others have to say...

Become informed.

You will lose your fears and along the way you will be able to give other newbies insight about the low carb way of life.

Mushroom/cheese omelette for breakfast
Cheese/ quorn (vege protein) salad for lunch ( lettuce/ cucumber/ red pepper/mayo)
some kind of concoction for dinner- last night it was an oriental stir fry with marinated tofu of course no noodles/ rice...
Olives or cheese for snacks, 2-3 litres of water, a slimline tonic water and decaf coffee with sweetener and cream..... if I'm doing Atkins as a vegetarian you can do it better !!!!

April is soo right. once you understand why this really does work, it's so easy and not intimidating.

yes, you will lose weight by eating meat and fat... but dont forget your vegetables. they are just as important.

get the book, and do check out the web site of the plan you have chosen.

for starters:
http://www.atkinscenter.com

good luck!! and let us know how you are doing....

Christina ... lost 9 pounds since 09/01/03 ... WOW, that is great!... I am a newbie, and I just started the LC about an hour ago and I am ready to sacrifice what ever it takes to get back weight-wise where I should be. I know that starvation is the worst thing to do, but I get bored eating steak, eggs etc ... and I am l not a cook per-se either. So where does one start as a newbie? ...what is it that we newbies SHOULD eat to lose this type of weight so quickly.

Keep up the good work
