I've been on induction for the past three days. Been looking up carb counts on the net and different places. Well today I got my Atkins carb book. I looked in the book to reassure myself of my carb intake over the last three days, and DARN IT Don't you know that book is saying some of the foods I have had are higher in carbs than I thought. SOOOOO naturally now I know each day I was over 20 carbs per day. Now I am all bummed out. I feel like just going out and buying a snickers bar and restarting this coming Monday. I thought I was doing so well too . I wasn't adding sugar to my coffee, or having bread/rice/flour...Resisted the waffles and chocolate chips. I was, I thought, being really really good.
I am happy my book is here, no more guess work, but upset because I feel like the past three days were for nothing.
Ok, so that is my rant, now for my question, should I just restart Monday...or keep on going with my induction?
Thanks again(you guys have been so great about answering my questions!!)
Nat

Don't binge. That will only make you feel good for a few minutes, then lousy after... you HAVE done well.

Okay, so you didn't quite do 'induction'... you will, you can start right now, or tomorrow, but even if some of the foods were higher in carbs than you thought, most likely you HAVE cut carbs by an enormous amount from what you used to eat, just remind yourself that you have accomplished a great thing, and you can do the induction having weaned yourself down from the high carbs of your former life.

Nat, what would you eat in a run of a day? Now that you say this, I am kind of worried about my carb intake!

Make sure that you subtract the fiber grams from the carb count. This may make a big difference. I started using FitDay and forgot that you subtract the fiber from the carbs and thought I had really blown it. Wasn't until I calmed down and remembered that I found out I was actually well below 20-25 g and then I had to up my carb intake. This broke a very long stall.
Hang in there.

ok for me, breakfast has been a few scrambled eggs with cheese and salsa, coffee w/cream, and water.
Lunch-grilled chicken breast chopped into a chicken salad w/celery, mayo and oinions.
Dinner low carb chicken alfredo(made with cream, cream cheese didn't actually have enough cream so I had to add the cream cheese, parm cheese, salt and pepper. All that poured on top of boiled cauliflour and rutabaga. (which is what I think pushed me over...the rutabaga)....oh yeah water water water....did I mention more water? Guess where I spend all my time!

The salsa you're eating....is sugar listed in the ingredients? Does it contain carbs? Just worried about the salsa...

"I wasn't adding sugar to my coffee, or having bread/rice/flour...Resisted the waffles and chocolate chips. I was, I thought, being really really good."

You were being really, really good. It is hard to cut out the high carb foods in the first days of induction and you have done that. If your extra carbs came from veggies so what. You can cut out the high carb vegs and substitute a lower carb one (cabbage, broculli, etc.).

I hope you did not give up . Please let us know.

You might consider using a food tracker program
like www.fitday.com. It's easier than looking in a book, but the book can be kept at hand for when you're not at your computer.

As far as restarting induction I don't know if that's necessary. Why not get to the end of induction and see how much you've lost. at wprst you can add in 3 more days but it probably won't be necessary.

I did the same thing. I started low carb eating in January on a hit-or-miss basis. I did the same as you - passed on rice, bread, noodles, sweets, etc. Despite not being "on plan" according to induction rules, I still lost 9 pounds in 3 weeks!

I agree with Rob about using a nutrition tracker like Fitday.com or Dietpower. It's just ~so~ much easier than looking up in a book and calculating everything manually!
