A quick question please

Are we allowed to have sunflower seeds or a bit of nuts during induction period for snacks between meals?

I have 1 serving of sunflower seeds which contains 1gr of carb per serving and i have this sunflower seed daily between lunch and dinner as a snack, is this allowed? I'm stil on my 3rd day of induction, so i'm not sure if this is okay or not....can someone please shed some light on this?

Cheers,
Natalia

Natalia,

I think a small amount is ok. Be careful, many report that seeds and nuts seem to cause cravings. Everyone is a bit different.

HANG IN THERE!!!

Thanks Don, i'm keeping it to 1g per day so hopefully its okay

I don't find seeds to cause cravings, but it actually helps me avoid my cravings for my sweets between meals

Natalia, welcome to the boards!

I had a handful of macadamias during Induction, and then realised they were not allowed, so I played it by the book and ate no more until OWL.

However, since Induction, I have been enjoying nuts and seeds daily - almonds have antioxidants, four brazil nuts contain a woman's daily needs for selenium. Macadamias are called 'powerhouses' by Dr Atkins, I love them! Like you say, they do hit the spot when I crave something sweet. Strawberries and raspberries are comparatively low in carbs and have low glycemic count, so these are excellent after Induction. Meanwhile, if you have to have something sweet, sugar-free jelly (jello) is fine for Induction. I have to admit I didn't have it at that time as I was determined to kill the carb cravings, but I have it now occasionally.

You sound like you are being really careful, so I am sure that weight will tumble off. Best of luck.
Clare

Not during induction. After induction, maybe, probably.

Nuts are one of those edgy foods that are somewhat individual. The point of the OWL phase is to find out how many carbs and what kinds of foods you can eat, so when you get past induction and start OWL, give them a shot. If you remain in ketosis, they can be a permanent part of your life.
