I am sooo like a man in that I hate to read instructions. I just know how to do things. (nothing personal to men) Well I thought I was at the end of my induction but after reading a lot of posts I am thinking I really need to read a book. I ate sunflower seeds and cheese and crazy stuff. My carbs were always 20 or below net carbs and I did loose 9 lbs last week. Ok I ate 37 carbs today but this should have been my last induction day. Do I need to start over? And read the dopey book. I am trying to be very honest and real with myself, very accountable. Please I need gentle feed back.

send help,

Virginia

I can do this!!

Virginia... you know the answer to your own question... YES, you MUST read the book.

you will never get the understanding of how and why this works, without reading it. Sure, you can read all the posts in the world... but you still have to read the book to get it right.

37g isn't too bad for day 14... could have been better, but could have been worse

Sunflower nuts are very good for you - providing your don't get 1000 calories from them... nuts and seeds are calorically dense

You don't need to begin Induciotn over... just continue on... but READ your book... you do have one don't you?

Be accountable.... get the understanding you need to do this right.

I think you have answered your own question...don't be like "US MEN". LOL

READ THE BOOK(S).

Seriously, this is sooooo very important. My wife wanted me to give her the "Reader's Digest Condensed Version" but I made her read my books. There are a lot of issues out there and through proper study you can head off a lot of problems without relying too much on trial-and-error.

Support groups like this are great for support but they can't cover all of the nuances that the books do. AT least not always in a logical order. Also, the books are an important "ready reference" that is there for you on a moments notice.

The worst thing you can do is un-intentionally sabatoge yourself and not even know you are doing it. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

Bless you for being honest because that is the first step in making it work better for you.

HANG IN THERE!!!

She has since told me that it was very good for her to have done it because they gave her a much more rounded approach to LC eating. i have to admit, i have never read the atkins book! what i have done is poured over the website and ingested all the info i could find on there. i did eventually buy the book after a while, but never made it past page 20. i found his writing too dull =P besides, after reading the website, there really isnt much new in the book.

hi, my name is erin, and i am a cheapskate and prefer free websites!

I think the most important part of reading the book is that all the information you need to start is all there in one place - you don't have to scan a multitude of sites or posts or articles to get the information.

And frankly, the doctors explain the physiological stuff a lot better than we can.

I have always seen our role here at LCE as a support function, not an end to itself. We expound upon the basic principles, explore anecdotal evidence, and of course offer a ton of moral support that a book just can't.

But we are NOT a replacement for the books written by the doctors (whether it's Atkins or Eades or Heller or Sears or Schwarzbein or or or....).

What she said. Read the book and everything else you can so that you know you're doing it correctly. An informed low carber is a successful low carber.

I'll admit that reading DANDR wasn't the most exciting thing in the world, but it definitely has value. There were things that were said in there that made me say, "Oh, that's why I can't lose weight doing low fat!!" I found the explanations about the body's insulin reaction to be very instrumental in my understanding of this WOE. It's what's kept me on this WOE! I think of all of the nasty things that carbs/sugars do to the body on the cellular level and it keeps me on the straight and narrow.

Just wade through it as you would house cleaning. It has to be done, just get it over with and you get a clear understanding of the WOE in the end! You can do it!!!

Cheers!

To take this thought one step further, I have read many of the other LC books just to understand options out there because it is terrible to be a "ditto head"/one trick pony. I am totally convinced there are suttle (and not so suttle) nuances that make certain plans better for certain people. Atkins was the most vocal "fathers" of LC however, if you read his books (I still have my copy of his original Diet Revolution" book you will see how it has evolved. Perhaps from politics but I tend to beleive from greater knowledge we have gained over the years. In the final analysis I don't think he got it all right the first time. Well DUH! That is part of the process of discovery so that is not his fault. Even more, it is through his persistent plugging that we have even gotten to this level of acceptance and serious medical studies. That, in turn, will benefit us greatly.

As an example, I tend to blend Atkins with TKD principles because of my high level of calorie burn when I cycle. That is one factor for ME. Each of us has different factors that need to be considered to find a way that we can benefit most from our chosen eating habits.

So, keep studying. The better you understand options, the better you can find a formula that meets you specific needs.
