| Hi, I am brand new to this way of life (Day 6 induction)although I have been on just about every other diet that exists..anyway my question is this...is it really OK to eat UNLIMITED amounts of protein, I mean like several lbs of protein and half dozen or so eggs per day (all carb free) ? Is it possible to eat too much? Thanks for any info you can provide |

| Not that I am an expert.. But during induction, my understanding is that protein and fat are ok in any amount. Infact, only as you get closer to your goal weight do you need to start watching these two. Make sure however that you get as close as you can to 20g of carbs each day. And drink about 8 pounds of water a day (1 gallon). I have been eating obscene amounts of protein and fat each day for the last 15 days and I am positive I am losing weight and I feel a heck of a lot better than I did 20 days ago. Here is what I would eat an average induction day: Breakfast: 4 slices of bacon or 4 sausage patties and 2 eggs Lunch: Two bacon cheeseburgers sans bun Side salad with full fat ranch or bleu cheese dressing Dinner: Strip steak with melted butter Asparagus or salad Most people I know who do diets like WW are absolutely horrified by my menu but I love it!! |

| Diet4ever, fg is right... it's OK to eat a lot of meat BUT do get in your veggies. and another thing... this is not a meat free-for-all; only eat until you are no longer hungry, eat until satisfied. if that means a 16oz porterhouse, then that is what is it.. but if you are full/satisfied and no longer hungry after 4oz and your veggies/salad... then pack up the rest of your steak and eat it later. i think the first few days we ate more - it's a new way of eating, and we are generally hungry due to the other diets we were on... but after a few days, it will level out and you wont be as hungry... PLUS, proteins and fat will keep yu fuller longer than those high carb diets we used to be on. HTH Terese LCE Member since 12/00 My LC web site |

| ok, thank you both for the advice, maybe I am eating too much..its hard because I am home all day and am used to snacking...is it ok to snack say on bacon or chicken as long as I still drink and eat veggies? I am not too fond of salads and veggies so honestly I have not had too much just lots and lots of protein. I will add some more of those things today. My biggest problem is and always has been that I eat whether hungry or not and it is so hard for me to break that habit I probably never even am hungry but just eat anyway and stop when I am stuffed |

| Make sure you eat your vegetables since they will be your only source of carbs just now. Eat your veggies first before eating your protein at each meal. Then eat your meat and just eat until you're COMFORTABLY full....not stuffed. It took me forever to get that point at first. It took me forever to know what "comfortably full" meant. I suppose it means that when I was done eating my meal, I didn't hafta get up and undo my pants because I couldn't breath. Yeesh. Glad I broke THAT bad habit! | Eggs have carbs - approx. .6 carbs per large egg, so at least count 2 eggs as 1 carb. There are also some seafoods that have carbs, so watch out for those. Nothing should be a complete free-for-all, but you should eat when you're hungry, and as stated before, stop when you're satisfied.. |

| I am a slow eater and noticed that I get full before I can eat everything I put on my plate...so I learned like April said I eat my veggies first and I stop when I know I am full! It took me a couple of months to really learn what full felt like since I formerly ate until I was nearly sick! To get to the rainbow you must first pass through the rain! |

My biggest problem is and always has been that I eat whether hungry or not and it is so hard for me to break that habit I probably never even am hungry but just eat anyway and stop when I am stuffed that was me to a tee too. oh and how about eating the food your kids left on their plates? anyhoo - you can break these habits. As was said in a different post... do it for 2 weeks and do it right.. you will be able to break the habit of constantly eating... If I can do it, anyone can. There are times when i will pull something out of the frig (meat sauce jsut the other day) i even had the spoon in my hand... and i said to myself "put that away, you are not hungry" (I had a stressful day... and i grabbed a tall glass of water instead. I too never liked veggies much.. but i found a few that i really like (heck, what doesnt taste good lathered in butter or a cheesy or creamy sauce? ) and every now and then i may try a new veggie - I may not like it (artichokes) but i tried it.. and move on to another one. If you can just tollerate lettuce.. do a big bowl with a good high fat dressing OH back to your other question... sure it's OK to snack on protein thru-out the day... but just remember to get in some veggies at your main meals.. .and dont make a meal out of your snacks... cuz even though (on this WOE) you dont have to count calories, they do add up fast. | If you are curious about what you are actually taking in you might want to register at www.fitday.com It's free and you can track everything you eat, whether you are getting enough nutrients, track your exercise, etc. I only started fitday about 5 days ago.. wish I had started back in August! But, to answer your actual question, you don't have to worry about the fat/protein at this point and a typical induction menu will consist of as much as 80% of your calories from fat and you will lose weight. It's amazing isn't it? Susan LC and feeling better every day! Atkins since 7/18/03 210/185/140 |

| The plains indians like the Sioux lived on a low-carb diet of unlimited meat. They were very healthy. Many of them lived into their hundreds. Their diet consisted primarily of buffalo, moose, and beaver. Check this out. It's interesting: http://www.calverley.ca/Part01-FirstNations/01-044.html |

| Doc, that was quite interesting! I think it always goes back to what was put here for us to eat, before McDonalds, frito chips and chocolate covered donuts were made. We were designed to eat natural food. Industry and all the man made foods that we are raised on and become addicted to have really gotten us out of whack. Just Believe. |
