I started using fiday today to keep a jornaul ...they list cauliflower as being 5.2 carbs but it has 2.5 dietary fiber...so it would be 2.7 per cup...but the Atkins book list it as 4.4 per cup. Is the Fitday a good site to count my carbs ? The same with the lettuce romaine: fitday : 1 carb - atkins : 1.9 carbs.
    What should I do ?

I usually stick with the atkins book or web site!

I generally go by the Usda, or fitday. A lot of the problem is because of measuring. If you chop the cauliflower into tiny florets you get more in a cup. That's why I have a digital scale and weigh everything raw weight. It's more accurate than cup measurements.

Yes, it can be both discouraging and frustrating to see all the differences between all the sources. I would just pick one and stick with it.

Rob is right - it's more accurate to go by weight.

Here is the value from DietPower (based on USDA), which shows weight and volume:

cauliflower, boiled, cut in 1" pieces, drained, 4.4 oz per cup

for 1/2 cup serving (2.2 oz.)
    14 calories
    0.3 g fat
    2.5 g carb
    1.7 g fiber
    1.1 g protein

    so, 0.8 g net carb

    Hi!

I just started on Sept 1 at Atkins and have been using their journal and their netcarb counter...There are so many places to choose from and books to go by that I figured I'd just stick to one place...figuring it's Atkin's diet I'd use Atkin's site and tools(http://atkins.com/) I have found it very simple to use and the site informative except that they don't have a forum for discussion like this one....By using the netcarb calculator I just keep track under twenty even sometimes it has come under 12 but I am getting better at it...Hillaine try to keep it simple...Ever hear the the saying "too many cooks spoil the broth" ...in your case "too many books may spoil the diet" and throw your desire into confusion...Keep it simple and one source...nothing in life is perfect and I doubt if there is one totally accurate list on carbs...Good luck...Sue
