| Hello everyone! ![]() I want to thank all of you for helping me through this, I could not have stayed motivated without you.....you're all a God send!!! My question is....I miss my Ice Breakers cinnamon gum REALLY BAD! I found that Trident has 1g of carbs and 1g of sugar alcohol...how many grams do I count this??? I thought you just counted carbs and subtracted fiber grams if any, now I've been reading post about sugar alcohol and it's throwing me way off. Can anyone please explain? Thanks so much, Janet |

| Janet, here's a very basic explanation on sugar alcohols: the theory is that you can subtract sugar alcohol grams (not sugar grams) from your total carbs because the body doesn't really digest them. However, many of us find that they do affect our blood sugar levels and slow down or stall our weight loss. Here's what I do, I only subtract half of the sugar alcohol grams. This seems to give me the truer calculation. But it's a YMMV thing. If you're still in the Induction phase, I'd strongly recommend that you avoid anything with sugar alcohols. But that's just my opinion. As far as fiber, you always subtract the fiber grams from the total carbs. HTH Always eat your veggies first! |

| Here's a second to Brightlady's advice. Try to stay away from sugar alcohols during induction. In fact, try to avoid them always! I'd say if you must have them, count them fully as carb gms. To me, they have bad side effects, but some find them totally without side effects. John 202/176.5/170 |

| I count half of them too. Avoid them as much as possible but don't get too hyper if I have something with them on occassion. I become even less concerned on days where I spend a couple hours on the bike and sort of use them as a recovery snack instead of products like Power Bar. A couple links to consider: http://www.geocities.com/jenny_the_bean/products.htm http://www.netrition.com/cgi/article...7&article_id=4 All of that being said...YMMV on these products. If you aren't keeping close tabs on the affects they have then you might get fooled so AFTER induction, experiement with care. HANG IN THERE!!!
